Book Summary of Simply Fly

This is the journey of a boy born in a remote village, who went from riding a bullock cart to owning an airline, a journey of an entrepreneur who built India's first and largest low-cost airline Filled with rich anecdotes of everyday struggles and joys, this is the awe-inspiring story of Captain G.R. Gopinath. This autobiography narrates in gritty detail Captain Gopinath's incredible journey: quitting the Indian Army in the late 1970s with a princely gratuity of Rs 6500, going back to his farm land inundated by the river, converting a piece of barren land to set up a farm for ecologically sustainable silkworm rearing, winning the Rolex award for it, his loves and passions, his extraordinary determination to launch an airline (which touched a crazy market cap of US$ 1.1 billion in less than four years ), in the process rewriting aviation history.

About The Author
Captain G.R. Gopinath is the founder and chairman and managing director of Deccan 360, India's new logistics company which began operations in May 2009. Prior to incubating Deccan 360, Captain Gopinath had set up Air Deccan, India's first low-cost airline in 2003. Air Deccan went on to revolutionize Indian aviation with its 'no frill' business model that tightly controlled costs and offered affordable airfares to the Indian people, enabling millions of first-time fliers. Within three years Air Deccan's operations spanned over sixty-five destinations including dozens of unconnected cities, with a reach that extended beyond even the state-owned Indian Airlines. Captain Gopinath lives in Bangalore with his wife and two daughters.

Awesome Book

Whenever I use to see this book in some big bookstores, I thought it would be a just another listless business story...Then last week, I thought giving it a try.As usual, Flipkart delivered it with flair. Capt.Gopinath has penned down his story of success in a very lucid manner. One thing which I liked the most in this book is, whenever he goes through precarious situation, he quotes a inspirational quote from the books of great writer.I admire his courage. He is truly a great Indian entrepreneur.

a real treat to see another indian rise from a squashy pool of people who dont dare to realise their dreams....

this was the first book i read when i got into my college in the library. the week long interaction int he college passed with me reading it in the library. and it turned out to be a jackpot!! the way the man journeyed to be a simple, village kid to be in the army and planning an ambush to help a woman run :-P, to be a farmer and turn a rocky land fertile with his modern approach, to be a dealer in bikes, and later, to be an icon in the aviation business, is simply mind boggling. the journey from being barefoot to jawaan boots to again on foot (while trekking) to a bullock cart to an enfield bike to finally soaring in the sky on a copter is classic.... a must read for every student who are afraid of the future....

simply superb

THIS BOOK SHOULD BE READ BY ALL BUDDING ENTREPRENEURS AND INCLUDED IN THE CURRICULAM OF M.B.A. IT IS WRITTEN IN A FLAWLESS ENGLISH AND LUCID STYLE. AFTER TAKING THE BOOK IN MY HAND, I COULD NOT KEEPT IT ASIDE UNTIL I COMPLETELY READ THE BOOK. SO FAR I HAVE GIFTED 5 COPIES TO MY FRIENDS. I AM ALSO KEEPING A COPY FOR FUTURE READING. REALLY, HE REVOLUTIONISED THE INDIAN AIR SPACE AND MADE EVEN AN ORDINARY CITIZEN OF THIS COUNTRY TO FLY. HIS NAME WILL BE PRINTED IN GOLDEN LETTERS IN THE HISTORY OF INDIA.
