Description
Sita's Ramayana shifts the point of view of the Ramayana - the saga of a heroic war - to bring a woman's perspective to this timeless epic. Narrated by the heroine Sita, it is a powerful meditation on the fate of women, as they become pawns in the wars between men and kingdoms. But Sita is not just a patient victim of events - she endures her fate with fortitude, until the moment she decides to challenge it. The book unites two women from very different backgrounds: young urban writer Samhita Arni collaborates with Patua scroll artist Moyna Chitrakar. Collector's item but weak on content

Since this book is promoted as a graphic novel, in that premise, it totally delivers. The drawings by Moyna Chitrakar are a nice representation of the original. The book itself is quite glossy, richly printed and beautifully bound. Would look lovely in your library.

However I was disappointed with the content. The writings are pretty basic. Sita's viewpoint comes only towards the end which is a dampener. This is not for those who want to know about Sita's perspective of the Ramayana.

Great book

I am completely new to Indian graphic novels haveing read the western ones.
When I ordered the novel, I knew waht I was getting, a Ramayan told from Sita's perspective. To that extent, the book does not disappoint. The story is told from the POV of Sita. Even when she is abducted, the narration, from being linear, jumps to cuts, where Sita is told the story in episodes by Vibhishan's daughter. Sita come across as an unintended victim in this book, who only wanted to be by her husband's side, ...

A total waste

I was disappointed as I expected much more from the book, having already read other books by women authors giving a woman's perspective.
To begin with there is hardly any written matter, secondly even the art is some old type of traditional folk art from Bengal which others cannot relate to & has lost its relevance now, as it was a means used for quick depictions of epic stories in the olden days for local rural people.
Sita has been depicted as rotund & dark, though according to the origi...

Rich presentation and poor content

Got to read the author's review in women's web. Was immensely interested to read a female view of Ramayana. I thought it would reflect the true feelings of a woman Sita. I have waited page after page to read something novel and fresh. But I reread the same content read in the other books. This book is a good choice for presenting to someone younger. It is full of drawings...

I must say I am rather disappointed because of the expectations I had. I expected to read something different fr...

such a beautiful book!

Sita's ramayana starts off abruptly, suddenly draggin you straight into the heart of the story and holds you there till you finish the book. the illustrations also do complete justice to the words, and there are times when you might catch yourself wanting to continue looking at the graphics a little bit longer, just because they take you back to everything ramayana is.
one of the best books i've bought. in fact, some friends, after reading it, wanted to own it too! and we ended up ordering th...
