Sony BDV-E880 5.1 Home Theatre System

I bought this product from a Mall in Nashik (Flipkart is still to reach Nashik to deliver such products). I would've prefered to get this product from Flipkart as it would've saved my few thousands.

Nevertheless the I have got few Blu-rays and other media ordered from Flipkart.

The BDVE880 is a powerfull player with great sound and picture quality. The video Quality even in 720p resolution is amazing provided you have a HD ready TV.

While installation please ensure that the speakers are caliberated with the microphone supplied with the package. This ensures correct volume output from all the speakers while you are sitting in listening position (refer layout inside the users manual).

"The Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Blu Ray" (I pre-ordered this months before its blu-ray release through Flipkart) will just blow your mind when you select the audio preset at 3D Surround.

I have connected my HD Satellite Set top box through this player by HDMI (Audio and Video is processed by the player and Video is fed to the TV and Audio to the 5.1 speakers of BDV-E880). The experience with all HD channels is better than a DVD with 5.1 surround sound. The satellite speakers respond to your ammusement with minute details.

Though some times you observe a lag and mismatch in Audio and Video output (lip sync is missed).

If you own a Bravia TV then the remote sync is just perfect.
Even if you are not using a Bravia TV atleast when you switch off the TV the player automatically switches-off.

Still yet to try internet browsing with this player.

Other disappointment is that you have to stop the current Audio or Video track to surf the folders for other media even if you are feeding it with a USB drive.

In video playback this player does not plays "DAT" files. So you cannot play a DAT file copied from a video CD and feeding it through a USB drive. Nevertheless it plays a Video CD.

1000W RMS is good enough for a big living room provided you are feeding the player with a high bit-rate audio file. It will be difficult to withstand max volume (32 in case of this player) if you are playing a Blu-ray audio with 2 to 3 mbps a its bit-rate.
The output never distorts with such high bit-rate files. The lesser the bit-rate the lower the audio quality which is highly evident by this player.

Its been about 6 months I am using this home theatre and totally satified with its performance. Its worth the price.

I bought the BDV-E880 2 months back and i can say it was a great buy.Well to the pros & cons
Pros

1.Video Quality is great.Pictures are beautifully reproduced.There is no doubt on that issue anywhere.

2.Audio Quality has to be heard to be believed.I have listened to music from other home theatres but this is one of those HTiBs to whose music you will actually dance to.Glorious refined and sharp bass(not muddy at all).Enough output from surround speakers so you don't have to worry about sub woofer drowning the speakers with its bass.
3.This works as advertised and perhaps will exceed your expectations.
4.This looks fabulous in your living room.Everything from the soft glowing white touch buttons(no plasticky clicking ones!!) on the AV Receiver,the always dimming and glowing white light (It Serves as a notifier for key inputs in remote) to the black glistening shine on the speakers.This one will win any beauty contest hands down.
5.If you have a bravia tv and you connect it via hdmi to the Home theatre then you will require only one remote.i.e you can control both Tv and the home theatre with one remote either the tv remote or the home theatre one(I know this feature is standard for all new home theatres but there are plenty of people who don't know this!)

Cons

1.The device may or may not read from your phone mounted as a USB device.(Mine did not nor did my dad's-Motorola Defy&Nokia 5800).Transcend 1TB portable(usb powered) did not read.But i can confirm seagate& western digital works(both usb powered).Of Course NTFS file format will be read.No issues at all.
2.This will not read Divx encoded files.It will read Xvid codecs though which means that your old rips wont work but your new rips will.Of course Divx to Xvid always has a workaround
3.If there are too much subfolders(18 i think) then there is a chance some of the files won't be read(not visible actually)..I haven't exactly tested this out thoroughly but it is something like that..Eliminating too much subfolders will remove this trivial issue.
4.For Internet access,a separate dongle(UWA br100) is required which costs 3k.Of course you can always opt for ethernet internet.
5.You will not get an ipod dock if you were wondering.(It is only for the european models)
6.There is no basic 2 channel audio in jack(i realise most people don't need that)HDMI is there for audio anyway so it shouldn't be an issue.

At 28k it is a great buy.It is perfect and a great addition to your Home Entertainment.I am not an audiophile nor do i check video quality with a microscope.But i only listen to mp3s at 320Kbps preferably and videos in HD and this product has been great.I shipped this to my Parents as a gift and every time i go home i always make a point in listening to the new songs i got in the home theatre(after hearing them a hundred times in my sennheisser headset in my phone).And you know what?The song feels a hundred times better.

I don't have a lot of Home theatre reviews under my belt,but i can definitely vouch for this product.
Also do check out the onkyo and yamaha products in this price range(not available online).They offer better audio(as said in some user reviews) but honestly i don't know how they could better this!And they don't look as good as this one.

This is one awsome stuff w.r.t both sound and video quality.
The only concern is that it doesnt deliver sound upto the mark, if audio has been recorded in low bitrate.
Something that I liked the most is that it has so many INPUT connections available to connect ither devices, just like an AV reciever.
Also the down firing woofer gives u a true immersive sound. Ensure you try out its Auto Calibration feature to get that great sound.

I bought it from somewhere else as it was out of stock in flipkart.

The best feature of the home theatre system is auto calibration. After installing it I just performed auto calibration and the system optimized itself for great quality 3D sound. Watched Avatar with full HD and 5.1 Channel surround sound and enjoyed the cinema at home. However this product supports only few formats but since it has HDMI input ports hence able to play a lot of content through my computer as well. This product is a great buy and value for money.

i purchased from trivandrum for Rs.29700,the music quality is very bad,i have to increase volume to23&above to hear sound clearly,high &low frequency sound cannot be heard at low level of volume.picture quality is perfect&clean,bluray disc viewing is no doubt,afantastic experience,which only sony can do.
