This is equivalent to a D-SLR

This camera has all te features that you want in a D-SLR. Why carry a camera with multiple lenses when you can have such a compact camera and yet have all te features loaded into it ? The HD movie recording is just mind blowing,. The super zoom minus the shake effects is unbelievable and delightful experience. This comes with 4 GB of SD card and that is more than enough. Pictures are crisp in all modes, soft portrait is amazingly beautiful and battery life is just too good. I am in love with this camera and I am sure this will please all of you who go for this camera

Amazing camera

I recently bought this camera, after dropping my idea of buying a DSLR. And boy, am I surprised. This camera is really affordable, has stunning looks, gives you a powerful 30x zoom[Manual & Auto], and even at full zoom , it can give you clear photos, with minimal noise in them. Compared to the Nikon d500, it has 16.2 MP (Nikon has 14), 30x zoom compared to nikon's 36, but on using both, I realised the quality and ease of use, was better overall, in this camera. I'm very satisfied with the product! The battery life is pretty amazing, has a lot of intelligent scene modes, and the intelligent auto mode is a pretty useful tool! A winning addition to the camera, is the GPS ,that allows geo tagging of photos, which is an amazing feature!
The only con feature I'd like to say, is the movement of the LCD. it has very limited movement, just comes outwards a little. Other than that, it's a pretty impressive model, and I'd surely recommend it to everyone.

Sony DSC HX 100V Cam gone worse than basic Point shoot Camera after repairs

Just giving in all details so that if required I can testify that I am not degrading the brand for this model. The problem is genuine.

Sony DSC HX 100V Cam gone worse than basic Point shoot Camera after repairs

I bought a Sony Cybershot camera on 13th Nov 2010.Product Details are as below:

Camera Model: DSC-HX100V / E32
Camera Serial Number: 2278307

Problem faced:

In January mid I found that dust has accumulated in the lens and I took it to the service station . They found some issue with the lens and told that lens has to be replaced. It took them two weeks to get the replacement lens.

After the service I find that the image quality is gone really bad.The sharpness is no more there for the images.I tried for all the programmed modes as well as manual mode. The focusing too is really bad.I got the issue verified at the purchase center from the salesperson. He too confirmed my observation but there was no stock of this model in the store to compare the images and and the functions.

I am highly disappointed to see the quality of images produced now.I have lost my superb camera and am handed something that delivers a basic point shoot camera quality.

A Camera for those who Love Photography OR the Wannabes ???

Well there have been mixed emotions regarding this one !
It's a camera which has done well in the market since it's launch. But i think it's a little outdated one.

Now we have in the segment a Camera : Sony HX10V which is a camera with 18.2 MP unlike the 16 MP of HX100V.
Also some may say that the zoom differs then i would strongly recommend that for personal use "16x Optical Zoom + 32x Clear Zoom" is more than sufficient. In most cases, 30x zoom is required only by professional photographers. Even then if you seek for a HIGH ZOOM camera, you can go for HX20V also.

With HX10V you will end up saving Rs.5000 and getting a much more COMPACT(Pocket Size), LIGHTER(Half Weight) and FASTER camera with 18.2 MP and same other features that are 'ACTUALLY REQUIRED' by us for personal use. Also the maintenance cost is low as HX10V's Lens are inside the body and don't get dirty easily unlike this camera whose lens are projected outward and there's no need of carrying lens cap, camera bag etc. with you.

Also the manual features of the camera are just to lure the 'wannabes' else if you are so passionate about photography you should go for a DSLR Camera.

Also one problem of HX100V is the "SLOW operational speed, specially while switching between modes" !
Some features will involve significant wait times that can easily mean the difference between capturing or missing that Special Moment.

I don't think that this camera is suitable for personal/home use but if your hobby is photography and you want a camera that looks a little professional then this is for you. But you will have to bear the heavy weight, slow operational speed, lesser megapixels, and big size of HX100V.....

Overall good but unsatisfactory macro

I have been using the HX100V for about a year now. Earlier I had a competitors Z981 with 25x zoom and before that Sony's H9 with 15x zoom which was very good in its class at the time.

To start with I do not know about technical aspects of photography and am happy to be a point and shoot user so my review must be read in that perspective.

I bought the HX100V primarily for the 30x optical zoom and tiltable LCD [a must for me] and have found it very handy for wildlife and bird shots without having to fumble in the midst of the jungle to change lenses! Image quality is quite good at 30x in reasonable light if you have a steady shot assuming you have no tripod handy. In low light at all zooms the image tends to be noisy.

In normal light the camera is very good for portraits and landscapes. Autofocus is good with easy multi focus options. The Intelligent Auto mode is good for most occasions though I also use P mode often and have used S on waterfalls to get a pretty good silky effect, that too without tripod. With a tripod, the results will definitely be superior. The Sweep Pano mode is pretty effective and I was fascinated when I first started using this option.

I have not tried movie mode so cannot comment. The viewfinder is tiny and not bright so I do not use it much unless I want a very steady shot without a tripod.

Sony ought to have had a dedicated Macro setting. Macro is very hit and miss with this camera. You have to fumble in auto mode until the macro symbol appears or you have to manually focus all the way down with the zoom ring to get a macro picture. The latter method is quite cumbersome. Macro pics with the ordinary H9 which had a dedicated Macro setting, were much better.

Other than that, all this camera needs is a wider angle lens and a bigger sensor to make it a super choice. I also use a NEX5 which produces superior images with the kit 18-55 lens but changing lenses is a nuisance for my predominantly outdoor use.

A good camera 4.75

i brought the camera from flipkart, as usual the delivery was fast enough.
about the camera
its a great one.
as everybody is talking about the pros i would like to say about the cons of the same.
1. camera does not provide photos in RAW format(only JPEG 4-5 MB) which is really sad.
a)bcoz the panoramic photos after compression does not look that gud, but manageable.
b)since it is compressed there is no point of being a 16 MP camera.'s ability to take photos in low light conditions are not that gud.
3.there isn't much use with the 3D option unless you have a 3D TV
4.the movie button is awkwardly placed, a lot of times it was mistakenly pressed and the camera was recording with my knowledge :P
5. the screen cannot be tilted sideways, a lot of other cameras do have that option and the lens cover is not so gud (Manageable)

My advice.
if you don't need a super zoom camera(and its bulky) then go for a low entry DSLR, bcoz the picture quality will be gud
otherwise all in all the camera works well, have taken upto 350 photos without charging, there wasn't much lag in operation, but it depends on the mode you are working on.(night mode and flash mode tend to be slow.)

One year of shooting amazing photos using Sony DSC HX-100V

I bought this camera when Sony launched it during Diwali 2011 and loved it from the very first moment when I took a trial at the electronics retail store. This camera has truly made a photographer out of me and brought lots of praise on the photos I have shot. Some interesting features I like are:
~ Intelligent auto mode: Auto detects the scene mode and gives sharp, crisp noise free photographs. Overall the best automatic mode of the camera.
~ Slow sync flash: One less highlighted feature that allows you to shoot low light motion motion subjects with blurry motion effects. Useful for photography in night clubs.
~ You can go full auto, semi-manual or fully manual mode with this camera.
~ Very light for a camera this big.
~ Image stabilizer is simply superb.
~ Dual microphones actually give you stereo sound effect when played back on an audio system.
~ Battery life is excellent. Though it eats battery fast in HD movie shooting mode.

~ Since there is no optical viewfinder, extremely low light photography is hard since you cannot see what you are shooting on the LCD screen even though the camera is capable of shooting in extremely low light.
~ Often while storing the camera, the power button gets pressed and the camera switches on.
