Design

This Sony earphone has been beautifully crafted to be a fashionable accessory. This earphone features two ear buds that fit well in your outer-ear eliminating the fear of falling out at the merest turn of the head. These ear buds give rise to a wire that streams down to merge at one point and form a single cable that terminates into a 3.5 mm L-shaped connector. This design of the plug eliminates the fear of breakage that happens mainly because of the excessive strain at this point. The 1.2 m long cable of Sony Fontopia forms a comfortable Y-configuration.

Sound

The Fontopia MDR-E9A has not compromised on performance for an attractive look. This headphone comes equipped with two 13.5 mm headphone driver units packed with Neodymium magnets. So, this headphone maintains maximum musical accuracy. With 16 ohm of impedance, this Sony Fontopia earphone is able to produce adequately loud sound. As the frequency response ranges from 18 Hz to 22000 Hz, you will notice that every beat present in the track gets apt representation in the sound produced. This headphone is highly efficient with 104 dB/mW of sensitivity. This earphone is ideal for use with mobile phones, music players and a range of gadgets featuring a compatible audio jack as the maximum power input of Sony MDR-E9A is 100 mW.

NOT at all a good headphone!!!

i bought this earphone thinking of the brand name SONY, but i'm totally disappointed! it has no bass at all! though loud, its clarity cannot be appreciated! i found some kinda noise while listening to it. i tried it on different devices, even in my vaio, it sucks! you'll find even better non-branded ear phones in such a price, even lower!
you might try brands like senheiser or something else for low price headphones, but low priced SONY headphones are useless!

Awesome, if you are not a fan of loud music.

As the pack says, the earphone do have 'Crystal Clear Sound'. But it's a disappointment if u r a bass fan. The earphones perform extremely well at low and medium volumes (in fact I couldn't believe i had to pay just 250 bucks for them!); but at high volumes they seem a bit harsh bcoz there is hardly any bass effect. If u'r not a bass fan (or a fan of loud music for that matter) and u'r tight on your budget, then these are the earphone for you. At 250, they're worth every penny!

Decent sound quality at great price..

What really makes this headphone a killer buy is the price.. The sound is clear, though not extremely clear. The sound is not as natural as you expect from high end headphones, but overall the sound is good.. I dont listen to heavy bass but that seems okay... The highs are a little too sharp for my taste, but manageable..
Bang for the buck.. :)

A Nightmare For Sony Fans

Here's my review for the Sony MDR-E9 based on 5 parameters namely design, build, performance, comfort and value for money:

Design: For their price, their plain looks can be justified at first. But after they wear out with time, these look so dated that you begin to question yourself if they were built before Indian Independence.
Score:1/5

Build: Build of the buds are poor and expect them to wear out soon. On the contrary, the cord and connector quality are not bad, similar to some earphones in Sony's MDR EX range.
Score: 2/5

Performance: These will surprise you by sounding so poor and sh...

Build: Build of the buds are poor and expect them to wear out soon. On the contrary, the cord and connector quality are not bad, similar to some earphones in Sony's MDR EX range.
Score: 2/5

Performance: These will surprise you by sounding so poor and shallow that you doubt why they carry the Sony badge. The sound quality is below standard and most stock earphones surpass them. The bass is almost absent and the treble is shrill and uncomfortable at times. It gets a point for being amply loud.
Score:1/5

Comfort: They are moderately comfortable to wear due to their small size, but don't expect that comfort to stretch for more than an hour.
Score:2/5

Value for money: Apart from providing decent comfort for a pair of in-the-ear buds, I can't find a single reason more why anyone should buy them.
Score:1/5

Verdict: Even though they are very cheap, we have come to expect a certain standard when it comes to Sony products, and these just don't do justice to that. A very disappointing sub-standard product from Sony.

Overall Score:1.4/5

Do check out all my earphone reviews.

Good buy

Quite good pair for its cost and proves it's worth for what you pay. Even though not loud enough (to be used in noisy environments like traffic etc) but decent. Works brilliant with tweaked equalizer settings for phones. (View complete review)

Cheap, decent product -- sound is loud enough!

Works well with my Nokia E63 phone and Vaio laptop!
Good product at such a price (Rs. 270/-)
If you seek to have loud and clear sound (no comments on bass, etc., as I don't have much feel for them), then this is a cheap product for you from a recognized company Sony! Go for it!

Good for the casual music lover

It is a decent buy for casual listeners like me. I'm not an audiophile and this perfectly works for me.

Fits your ears and doesn't poke in like those through-the-ear earphones.

I'd suggest you go for it if you're not very specific about the quality of music.

Good but only as per price

Its a good product as for its price is concerned but every time u hear a song from this u will have to make urself remember about its cost , as sound quality is not very good as expected in this price range . But except that product is good , using it for over a year , but still working good. (View complete review)
