Renowned for its success in entertainment technology, Sony has finally gained entry into the Tablet arena with its first venture, the Tablet S, which created a buzz all over the world, even before the Tablet was released. This is an Android v3.2 Tablet, running the Honeycomb Operating System, and accelerated by a strong 1 GHz ARM Cortex A9 Dual Core processor. The processor is more than adequate at handling graphics-demanding applications like HD video and games. This entertainment and productivity device comes equipped with 1 GB RAM.

The Sony S has a primary 5 megapixel HD camera powered by Exmor Sensor and a 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera ideal for video calls over the Internet. The Tablet sports a dazzling 9.4-inch TFT LCD with a resolution of 1280 x 800. Sony has used its proprietary TruBlack technology while designing this highly responsive, swift and smooth touchscreen. This technology is also used in Sony's world-famous Bravia televisions.

Design

The Sony Tablet S is built in a unique folded form factor, fitting comfortably in your hand, with a subtle bezel adding extra grip and a fingerprint-prone plastic back. The Tablet gives you the feel of a little keyboard while typing as the screen is slightly inclined, which makes it comfortable to work on while the Tablet is placed on a desk. This lightweight gadget has an ergonomic design that helps you operate the Tablet with ease.

Measuring only 0.8-inches in thickness at the top, the Tablet graduates to 0.3-inches towards the bottom. The Tablet has 1 USB 2.0 port for you to connect your pen drive or hard drive and access files. This Sony Tablet is integrated with a 3-Axis Accelerometer and the Ambient Light Sensor. The device is also provided with a Digital compass and a Gyro Sensor for navigation.

Storage and Battery

The Tablet S comes with 16 GB internal storage which can be extended up to 64 GB by means of a microSD or microSDHC card. The Tablet also supports almost all Video and Audio formats, which gives you the liberty to store a large number of multimedia files on the card. The Tablet runs on a powerful battery which easily lasts 8 hours with a movie looping and active Wi-Fi. Furthermore, the Tablet gives you a music time of up to 31 hours.

Connectivity and Features

This variant of the Tablet S has a wide range of Internet connectivity options to choose from. The Sony S conforms to 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi standards for Internet connectivity. The Tablet is integrated with a v2.1 Bluetooth which is backward compatible with the v1.2, for faster data transfer. The Bluetooth supports EDR, A2DP, AVRCP, HSP, HID, SPP and OPP formats.

This entry-level Tablet from Sony is equipped with a GPS to guide you through routes while you are on the move. To enhance your audio-visual experience, this device has built-in stereo speakers for exceptional audio clarity and a built-in monaural microphone for video conferencing. You can also connect an external mic to the Tablet as it has a microphone jack as well.
