1.backlit keyboard helps in night alot nd gives a gr8 look...nd keys are really soft.
2.bravia screen with gesture controls ....with this you can pause play or change the volume just by placing your hand in front of camera nd sliding your hand (u can learn how to do it from vaio gesture control nd it works in light only) which is nice because keyboard nly provides vol. chng func nd nt play, pause,next etc func.
3.graphic card is pretty nice ....i dont know much abt the graphic cards bt it can plays all the latest games with full resolution.
4. xloud speakers are really nice .
5. if u close d lid it does not hibernate or sleep ...it just closes down nd when u open up it instantly opens up to the last screen dat ws opened without any loss in battery.
6. usb 3.0 helps in fast charging.
7. 640 gb hard disk nd 4 gb ram.

dislike-
1. intel core i5 (2nd gen) ....i wud hv lykd if dey cud put 3rd gen intead of 2nd gen fr sme extra money
2. 2 hrs of battery back up is really low.
3. trackpad sensitivity could hv been btr.
4. they do not actually provide any drivers or windows cd...u hv to make it frm vaio care(whch take 4 dvd's of 4.7 gb) nd dwnld drivers frm vaio official website....also 37gb of vaio software nd recovery data in c drive is a wastage of lot of space....shud hv jst given the few dvd's .

i would overall recommend this laptop over dell and hp ...although it costs a little more but its worth the money spent....nd its screen is much btr dan hp.

I have used this laptop and this one has ultimate performance, SONY is known for its premium quality and perfection.
In this Vaio, SONY installed,

1> Intel i5 2450M-> Windows rating 7.0
2> 4GB DDR-3 RAM-> Windows rating 7.2
3> AMD Radeon HD7650M-> Windows rating 6.7
4> 2GB DDR-3 Graphics memory-> Windows rating 6.7
5> 640GB 5400rpm HDD-> Windows rating 5.9

Actually when SONY launched this laptop the turbo boost function in Intel i5 was not enabled, due to this the performance of laptop was decreased about 10% then regular and windows rating was decreased to 6.9, but SONY found this problem and it's now solved.

If you want to know, Turbo boost is enabled in your processor? Download Intel turbo boost monitor Application and check.

If you own this product and your turbo boost is not enabled, don't worry just update your BIOS through Vaio update and this facility will be enabled in your laptop

The other thing about this is SONY says that installed RAM works on 1333 MHz but Actually its works on 1600 MHz which incredibly increase the performance

And last, the graphics in this Vaio is very high performance. I own SONY VAIO SVE15116ENB which has same graphics adapter but with 1GB memory. I have researched so many laptop but in this price range there is no other laptop with this high graphics configuration.

After 6-7 Month of launch of this laptop HP introduce ProBook series laptop with same graphics configuration but performance is decreased about 40% then SONY (only about Graphics performance).

If your budget is little tight see SONY VAIO SVE15116EN, This one has same Processor, RAM and Graphics adapter. but difference is 500GB HDD, 1GB Graphics No keyboard back-light and Windows 7 Home Basic. The Performance of both laptop are same.

1>Scratches on glossy plastic around LCD screen

You do feel special sitting in front of a Sony Vaio laptop and with the back (panel) of the laptop saying VAIO. Feels gr8.
Technically also this laptop meets all you entertainment and other daily needs. 2nd gen i5 processor is the icing on the cake, though 3rd gen would have been better but actually there is not much difference between them. Its hardly a difference of 2-3 sec in the booting time.
The 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7650 is sufficient for gaming and almost all the high end games are playable at a good frame-rate. If you are a regular gamer playing all high-end games and all its better to go for Alienware. Its worth the money you put(starts from 80000rs.) Otherwise this sony laptop is more than sufficient.
The Back-lit keyboard is the highlight of this laptop i must say. When it glows in the dark it looks AWESOME.
My previous laptop was a hp dv6 and it heats like a microwave! This laptop OTOH doesn't heat and the vent is conveniently placed at the left edge and not at the bottom so that all the heat generated(though less) easily escapes out. Overheating is one major problem of all the hp laptops and thats why i lost my previous laptop.

Positives:
-V. Good processor speed
-Good graphic quality
-Excellent back-lit keyboard and
-Good touchpad with multi-touch function and many other cool functions
-High-speed USB
-V. good audio Quality and much louder
-Ext. warranty 2yrs only for 2500 rs.( In dell its around 7000 rs.)
-Looks and appearance
-Its cheaper than the new Dell special edition 15R with the same configuration.
-Its a SONY.

Negatives:
-Poor battery backup (Its less than 2hrs on normal usage)
-Reasonably high cost of the accessories at the time of repair.

Not really many negatives, battery back-up being the main drawback...

-Lenovo has recently introduced Z380 which has the same config. but anyway its not a SONY.
-Samsung has a i7 processor wala laptop in the same range (some 1000 rs. more) but it looks horrible. It looks like a box of metal.
-After my previous experience with I won't suggest anyone to buy a HP laptop ever again. And their service is also very poor...

Brought the sony vaio SVE15117FN(White) laptop on 28-09-2012. I must say its a beast and the best you can get under 50000k i knw there are other brands who offer even better config at this price but who cares its a vaio....

Pros...
-> its Core i5 (2nd Generation)(nt much diffrence between 2nd nd 3rd generation its just 1-3 seconds faster at booting than 2nd gen)
-> 4 GB DDR3 RAM nd that too 1 slot empty.....
-> 640 GB HDD is more than enough to keep the content you use daily nd extraa ones can go to an external Hard disk.....
-> Its comes loaded with Windows7 Home premium nd loads of sony software that are sufficient for Home users nd U can upgrade it to windows8 pro for just Rs699+taxes....
-> its got a Bravia Engine LED Backlight Display nd thats awesome, belive me once u'll watch videos on this nd u will miss the bravia engine feel that other brands can't offer..
-> AMD Radeon HD 7650M 2GB DDR3 Full fills all ur gaming hunger i played games like Call of duty: World at war,black ops,mordern warfare3,nfs-the run,crysis2 etc nd all worked like charm on full grapics settings...(it can play all games avaliable in market till date)
-> 1.3MP HD web cam generate good picture quality bt ensure u have good amount of light in room...
-> touch pad is awesome its got multi geture support i must say very useful nd if u feel lyk the touch pad is nt sensitive enough u can increase the sensitivity in control pannel nd it will work like charm...
-> Back-lit keyboard is another boom in this laptop it makes it look more sexy at night (nd u can turn it off in day times or while operating on battery power) nd keys r so soft that it make u feel special....
-> speakers are really good xloud make it clear nd generate good effects music....
-> usb 3.0 is really futuristic nd fast (i get speed of 60 to 80 mbps on data transfer) however we get just one 3.0 nd three 2.0 bt its suffcient......
-> multicard slot for SD nd Pro duo....
-> vaio media Gallery is a charm it can sync wid ur facebook nd twitter a/c nd get ur photos nd music u love in ur vaio.....
-> vaio gesture Support is a great+ however it works in light bt its cool to give command wid ur hand....
-> The bluetooth is common bt sony added a features that help u make nd recieve calls and send nd recieve messages through ur vaio.
-> extended 2yr warranty for just Rs2500/-

Cons...
Not really find a (-) for this one....bt then
-> Battery Backup is low around 2 to 2.5hrs on normal usage....
-> For white Color U ll have to take care as it appeals for killer looks but gets dirty on rough usage.....
-> Sony Drivers take lot of space on hard drive....
-> it will make u addicted nd ur next purchase wil be a vaio again....

over all a must buy nd Highly Recommended.......

I got this laptop a month back , writing review after using it for a month.

Pros:
1>Keyboard is a delight to type. Soft keys which allows to type faster. With the backlit it looks sexy.
2>Web Camera is quite good , better video/image resolution that other laptop brands.
3>Screen is very crisp and bright.
4>Sound quality is excellent. You can watch movies without external speakers and without the need to switch to full volume.
5>i5 2nd gen. stays upto its reputation and handles everything pretty well.

Cons:
1>Screen is very glossy and if you reduce the brightness 1 level than full , you can see you image in the screen.
2>Graphics card is a average performing card which would not thrill you.
3>Touchpad experience is not comfortable.
4>DVD drive compartment feels a bit filmsy.
5>Only 1 USB 3.0 port. Also 2.0 ports are placed very near.
6>Hard disk performance is very slow.
7>No harware switch to switch off wifi and bluetooth.(Only works in windows)
Compatibility with Linux:

No problems installing linux. I installed Ubuntu 12.10.
Linux cannot handle this laptop's CPU and GPU usage and hence temperature will be touching 80 degrees. (Even during idling)
