Soul Exchange

Nineteen-year-old Drew Calloway had not had an easy life. An only child, her parents were tragically killed in a car crash when she was three months old. Raised by poverty stricken, maternal grandparents, in a three-room shack, Drew never experienced the slightest taste of the finer things in life. Because of her living conditions, Drew was embarrassed to have visitors therefore she had no friends. To have a boyfriend was completely out of the question. When she was sixteen years old, another tragedy occurred in her life. The only mother she had ever known and loved, her grandmother, died suddenly with a heart attack. Her grandfather went downhill from there and six months later a few days after Drew's seventeenth birthday, her grandfather died also. An abusive uncle took possession of the house. Drew stayed there until she graduated from High School. The following day, devastated, afraid and very alone, Drew moved out of the house. With her grandparent's old car, a credit card and three hundred dollars she had stolen from her uncle's wallet, Drew was able to rent a two-room apartment. She maxed out the credit card to buy enough food and supplies to hopefully last until she could find a job. After two weeks of job searching, food was running out and the rent would be due soon. She applied and started to work for an overbearing, affluent attorney's office as a file clerk. Her paycheck covered her monthly bills and bought a few groceries. She joined a Baptist Church located around the corner from her apartment and became close friends with a group of young women her age. Dating was rare. Self conscious of her sparse wardrobe, Drew seldom accepted an invitation to go out with a young man.One rainy Monday morning, depressed and dead broke, Drew is at her wits end when she opens her morning newspaper and an eye-catching flyer drops to the floor. A flyer announcing a one-day seminar guaranteed to turn her life around and make her a wealthy woman.
