Description

An engineering student’s guide to everything they need to know about materials, Strength Of Materials is an ideal text for undergraduate students.

Summary Of The Book

Strength of materials is one of those vast topics, wherein engineering students can quite easily get lost without finding the information they need. Almost every field in engineering requires an understanding of how stresses and strains (i.e. strength of materials) affect their area of study. Many books have been written on this topic, but few contain the esoteric information required for specialised fields of engineering.

Strength Of Materials is a book designed to cater to every need of an engineering student in this particular area of study. Although civil engineering students will benefit most from this book, it also contains information which would be useful for fields such as mechanical, chemical and mining.

Just as in the first two editions, it provides a coverage of a large number of topics and has clear, concise explanations for every step presented. This edition of the book contains two new topics, analysis of principal strains and torsion of hollow thin-walled sections. The book includes a lot of solved problems which have been given systemically, and also includes exercises. The book is written in a simple manner and has nearly 500 diagrams. Important formulas and concepts are given at the end of each chapter.

Strength Of Materials is divided into 10 chapters, each of which deals with a different topic. Topics such as Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagrams in Statically Determinate Beams, Deflections of Beams by Double Integration Method, Thin and Thick Cylinders and Spheres, Torsion, Columns and Struts, and Theories of Failure are covered in adequate detail within these 10 chapters.
