Shyness is universal. Everyone possesses it at varying levels and experiences it at one time or the other. Considering the very role of students' shyness in education, a study has been undertaken to identify the shyness present in the secondary school students and to know about the influence of certain variables on it. The ninth class students are moderately shy. The variables such as gender, parents, occupation, parents' income, and academic achievement have their influence on student shyness, but the medium of instruction, management of the school, parents' education, and number of siblings in the family have no influence on student shyness. The parents, teachers and community should work hand in hand to socialize the shy students through their social acts and personal activities. As a sociable child will be a successful citizen, everyone should try to remove shyness of the children. This study on Student Shyness will be useful to the parents and teachers for identification and removal of shyness among school-going children. It will also be useful to the heads of schools in organizing suitable curricular and co-curricular activities inside and outside the school.
