An alien spacecraft lands in Soviet Russia, carrying the last son of the planet Krypton in Mark Millar’s alternate-universe spin on the Man of Steel entitled Superman: Red Son.
Summary of the Book
He’s faster than a speeding bullet from a Kalashnikov, more powerful than a tank, and he can leap over the Kremlin in a single bound. He stands for truth, justice and the Soviet way. He’s Superman, the communist hero and protector of the Soviet Union. In 1959, the Soviet Union shows offs its military prowess by unleashing this superpowered alien on the United States. The Cold War turns into a race for superhuman abilities, steering away from nuclear warfare. The United States panics, employing the super genius Lex Luthor, a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs, to destroy this alien. Steering the Sputnik down to the Earth, Luthor fools Superman into saving Metropolis and manages to collect some of his genetic material to create a clone. This clone is a much more hideous version of Superman, and despite bearing his own powers, he is nothing like the original. The two super-behemoths clash and they set off an accidental nuclear missile launch in Great Britain. Nothing seems to be able to stop Superman in his tracks, and soon even his communist masters begin to regret trusting him. Soon, the orphan child of a wealthy family is sent to reckon wits with this juggernaut, but can the Batman stop this seemingly immortal alien, or will the entire world fall to his whims?
