Tagore Classics Combo Pack (Set Of 6 Books) (Hindi) (Paperback) Price: Rs.285

Rabindranath Tagore is a celebrated Indian writer who wrote several poems, short stories and novels. He is the only Indian writer to win a Nobel Prize for Literature. Tagore's short stories are read all over the world and especially India simply for their middle class flavour and a simultaneous modern approach. Besides depicting a vivid picture of Bengal, the stories also represent a complex and varied picture of a society in transition. His stories evoke emotion and humour and are a treat for the readers.

The Set Includes The Following 6 Titles:

1) Tagore Classics: The Notebook
'The Notebook' is an emotional story that reflects on child-marriage and the importance of educating a girl child. As a young child, Uma loved reading and writing and would scribble on anything and everything. Once Uma's elder brother gifts her a notebook and she begins to pen down her thoughts in it. At the time of her marriage to Pyarimohan, Uma carries the notebook along to her in-laws' house, oblivious of the fact that her in-laws believe that girls should not be educated at all.

2) Tagore Classics: Grand Father
'Grandfather' is the story of a 'Babu of Nayanjore', Kailashchandra, who is driven to extreme poverty because of his extravagant lifestyle and has to finally leave his mansion and settle in Kolkata along with his granddaughter Kusum. Kailashbabu finds it difficult to forget his glorious zamindari days and talks about it at every other occasion. Everybody is fond of Kailashbabu except for the narrator who finds him boastful and pretentious. He, therefore, plays a trick on him to make him look foolish. While he makes fun of Kailashbabu\'s foolishness, Kusum watches everything and is hurt.

3) Tagore Classics: Absent Minded Scientist
As the title suggests, Nilmoni Babu is an absent minded scientist who keeps forgetting about things and then creates a huge commotion and blames it on others. Kusumi does not like him at all but her grandfather is quite fond of his brilliant scientist friend. The incidents narrated bring forth the absent mindedness of Nilmoni Babu and is full of hilarious moments as he brings the whole house down over such trifle issues as a lost fountain pen or a lost slipper.

4) Tagore Classics: Hidden Treasure
'The Hidden Treasure' revolves around a mysterious treasure hidden in a village called Dharagole. The key to the treasure is a map which now lies with Mrityunjay. Before him, his grandfather and father also tried deciphering the map but none of them succeeded. They spent all their time searching for the treasure and thus became paupers. But Mrityunjay is determined to find the treasure and follows a sanyasi who he thinks has stolen the map and thus reaches Dharagole.

5) Tagore Classics: Kabuliwala
'Kabuliwala' is a famous story told and retold many a times. Mini is a little girl who befriends a kabuliwala and they gradually grow fond of each other. The kabuliwala brings dried fruits for her and the two spend their time joking and laughing about silly things such as their 'shoshur-bari' (in-laws' house). When the kabuliwala is jailed for committing a criminal offence, Mini slowly forgets all about him. And when he returns, Mini is a grown-up girl.

6) Tagore Classics: A tasty feast for the mice
'A Tasty Feast for the Mice' begins with a group of boys travelling in a train and returning to school after their summer vacation. They are not quite in their elements as their favourite Sanskrit teacher has left school and a new teacher is supposed to be appointed in his place. On the way, a gentleman enters their compartment and the boys make all efforts to get rid of him. But the gentleman tries to win over the boys in his own peculiar ways.
