Tales from Shining and Sinking India by debut author, Akash Banerjee, provides an incisive look into India’s recent past.

    Summary of the Book

Tales from Shining and Sinking India presents the readers with a realistic and detailed account of how broadcast media and television works in the country. The book consists of twelve chapters that comprises of stories the readers must have come across in the newspapers in the past 4 to 5 years. These stories reflect sinking India such as the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Bihar floods, and other stories which highlight the various accomplishments of shining India, like the launch of Chandrayaan into outer space, among others. These provocative and insightful essays show how broadcast journalists remain dedicated to their jobs and risk their lives to get the job done. The 'asli' picture from ground zero at its best!

Tall claims of 'being different' rarely come true but this one surely is a promise well kept! In this age of sensationalism journalism, one tends to forget 'what went behind getting the story' in all it's varied forms. Akash Banerjee's attempt at bringing forth a detailed account of how broadcast media works provides great insights. More than a read, it's a study. A good reference for budding journalists. Kudos!

    Another chapter before I sleep

Great book! Thoroughly enjoying it! Gives, a great behind the scenes perspective on media in India!

The stories are really well written, and I find myself thinking one more chapter before I sleep. Possibly, the best piece of non-fiction I've read in a while.

Amazing book to look at how media is working and helping people

Book illustrates key incident of recent history of India and tell us how journalism works in India. I was not aware how difficult it is, to cover adverse situation such as flood in Bihar and covering live terror attack at Mumbai and giving updates to people. Overall good book for common man for getting drop from vast ocean of journalism

    Super

The words take you on a journey and the visuals unfold before you. One of the most interesting, unpretentious books that I have read and extremely hard to put down.
I just wish that the pictures were presented in a larger/better format as they are as compelling as the words. Hopefully, in the next edition!
