I have asked Tamrac about this product on their Facebook page:is it rain proof?
They wrote,"Hello Subhajit, the answer to your question is yes. The zippers have rain flaps that cover them and the exterior of the bag is made of weather proof material due to a vinyl coating applied to the back of the fabric."
The first thing I noticed when this bag turned up at my door was its size. Kept next to my regular backpack, I couldn't help but chuckle at it's ridiculously small size! As small as a child's schoolbag. I half expected it to be one of those wasted 'spur of the moment' buys. But turns out, I was wrong.
This bag can handle a respectable amount of kit.
In the Bag -
Canon 50D with Grip Attached
28-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM (Hood reversed)
100-300mm F4.5-5.6 USM (Hood Reversed)
85mm F1.8 USM (Hood Reversed)
Space for one more small lens. Perhaps a 50mm F1.8?
Canon 580EXII Flash
Couple of Flash Triggers
Spare Batteries for both the camera and flash.
Charger, Cables, Memory Cards etc.
And this is without having used the side and front mesh pockets.
Now that's more that what the usual targeted audience of this bag will carry. So you're covered.
Pros:
Size - Leave this bag unattended in your car and nobody will break in. It looks just like a kid's school bag. Small. Very Small.
Can hold a surprisingly large amount of gear.
Sufficiently padded.
Cons:
Size - No matter how you look at it. It looks funny.
No space for a laptop. (I'm being funny here.)
I would recommend this bag. Even though its tiny, it can hold its own with the big boys. And for the price, you can't go wrong.
However if I have to carry all my kit, I will always reach for the Tamrac Expedition 7X. It can eat the Travel Pack for breakfast and still have room to spare! If you have a mega kit, get the Expedition instead. Costs quite a bit more too. But the space is unbelievable!
History - My old backpack was a Lowepro Computrekker.
with the product itself being the package here ;)
i think the only disappointment I've had with this bag is the fact that its small. Otherwise, the sturdy zips and the material of the bag just makes you wonder.. how did i get such a nice bag at so low a price. I have met people on trips, semi professionals who use Lowe Pro and bigger bags... they started laughing when i said i got this bag for less than 2k... delivered to my place ..
All in all a superb bag for its price.. i have an 18-55, a 55-300 and a 50mm, along with my Pentax k-r which fit amazingly well into this bag. Plus, i carry my charger, my battery a Panasonic Lumix bigger than usual point and shoot and its charger as well.. and i still have space to accommodate at least a couple of more lenses..
Pros:
1. Looks like a small school bag thus doesn't really draw a lot of attention
2. Sturdy zippers and padding
3. Superb material, waterproof Tamrac says. ( though i wudnt wanna find out)
4. very spacious despite of its size.
Cons:
1. No space for a tripod
2. Looks like a small school bag; would have loved it to be snazzier
Its actually 4.5/5 but Flipkart won't accept my 1/2 rating..
PS: needless to say the delivery was way before the promised date and flipkart is awesome n bla bla bla... Flipkart is the way to shop.. Period :D
I own a Sony SLT-57K along with the kit lens, 75-300 zoom lens with hood, 50mm prime, a spare battery, travel charger, 3 filters with cases, USB data transfer cable, 3 memory cards.
This bag accommodates all the above and still has space for 3 lenses (2 zooms and one prime) or 2 lenses if 1 is very lengthy, along with more accessories. The padding is very good and I believe will protect your camera and accessories in case of a fall from a good height (4-5 feet), assuming your camera is inside the bag :).
The form-factor is very space efficient.
The only slightly negative feel is with the shoulder straps of the bag. They are not as premium in quality as the padding (the straps are both thinner, and less padded than what I would've liked), but unless you stuff something very heavy in this bag and only use it for your camera and its accessories, it will not be a problem at all.
In one line, for its price, this is the best DSLR camera bag that one can get.
If you have about 3K, you can go for Vangaurd one that is currently listed for 2800+ and it will be similar in features with a more premium feel. And if you are extravagant, then go for the Case Logic one that will set you back by 6K+ but will be the best one for the money.
P.S.: If a person with a vertical grip is considering this, I must mention that it will not hold a DSLR with a vertical grip attached, although you can fit the vertical grip in the bag easily.
Just got mine delivered yesterday.
I visited a nearby mall and they were asking for much higher price citing VAT etc
I liked the product already, Compared to other brand bags like the Vanguard model of near about price range..this one is bigger and the strap are separate that is the left and right strap are attached to the body separately unlike the Vanguard model which have one strap and divided midway( so it makes it easier to slank it on one shoulder, the Vanguard model's strap comes on the way and had to be carried on both shoulders and with the size, makes you look like a school boy or girl ).
The zipper is covered by a thick and wide rail flap and that will make it rain proof. A light drizzle won't damage your gear but if you intent to throw it in a lake..I won't suggest you buy this.
The only negative i see of this price range bags ( Same with Vanguard models) is that the cover can't be fully pulled down, so had to grop my hand for my accesories at the lower tier.
Overall Quality bag..
For the purpose it is designed it works excellent, fits 3 Lens, one camera with lens, pouches for memory cards and other access...
