Tea-20: Perfect Companion For Your Teatime is a collection of 20 interesting short-stories.
Summary of The Book
The stories in Tea-20: Perfect Companion For Your Teatime by Vinod Kumar are unrelated in their theme, but they all have a common thread of contemporary life in India, with all its stark contrasts.
The stories are varied, humorous, and thought-provoking. They all have a little twist at the end, making them an interesting read.
The stories in this book cover different niches and introduce the readers to many characters. One of the stories provides a fictional account of the reasons behind Sachin Tendulkar’s success. Another suspenseful story covers the events that unfold during one rainy night. The life lessons that can be learned from a cup of coffee, the significance of 50 paise, a humorous look at the daily life of an IT professional, and the relationship lessons that one can learn from a dog are the other themes covered through these stories.
The simple language and clear, uncomplicated plots make the stories fun to read. Each story is just four or five pages long, so they are short and crisp reads. The simple plots manage to convey some deep insights into the human mind, relationships, and society.

Many of us are so engrossed in our work life that we know the number of digits in our salary but not the number of happy meals with our loved ones! How would it be if you find a well garnished âSpicy Fish Curryâ on ya plate but with no salt in it??
Yes, this book precisely talks about those flavours of life that can rejuvenate your every moment. It is no differentiation/ integration that many of us are still waiting to get a chance to apply in our lives, but of those little and mundane things that we usually ignore.
The writing is elegant, capturing those moments in our day to day lives that each one of us would have encountered at least once and wouldnât have taken any effort to remember it. I really appreciate the author to pen down those moments that feeds positive energy.
The language is simple, funny and expressive with an acute observation of simple things in life. Totally light and feel good book that reminds of many relationships, instances and the real world around us. This is a shortish work of 20 stories meant for all age groups and most of them are powerful and compelling. I enjoyed every bit of it!
As precious things come in small packets, take a break and try this book if you are a big fan of reading piles of pages otherwise give no second thought! Happy reading!
The composed list of stories is a true blend of humour, lifestyle and frustration of something with which you can truly portray yourself with. Wonderful narration gives you a scenic picture and brings out the sentiments and emotions in you - Write-ups like 'A Cup of Coffee' and '50-Paise' churns out the truth behind simple things. 'BYE' and 'SIGNATURE' gestures you to remind yourself of the long forgotten flavors of life - something that reminded me that I have forgotten to say THANKS, BYE, GOOD-MORNING and other simple things which can keep you bonded for long with your people...Sachin exaggerated as God would not even leave you without a sense of pride even when you are a non-Sachin fan like me...Overall this book is a perfect refresher and has some good messages combined with humour perfectly apt for modern day teens, children and people like me who have long forgotten the simple values of life in the mechanised world...If for the humour stories, I shall recommend most of the stories as a Moral Story book for schools for higher standards...
There is this Philosophical Vinod and the Fictional Vinod.
We (a small group of his friends) call him the Vikraman (Tamil Director) of Infosys. Most of these stories, have a hero or a heroine who isn't doing the right things, then we have this philosopher (beggar, drunken stranger, hero / heroine) who enters the scene and explains it with an practical situation and then we have a happy end. I would say for most of the stories, it worked. The message is passed on clearly. I wish that the world is as perfect as his Philosophical stories. But I am not a fan of his Philosophical works.
I like most of his Fiction Stories. I enjoy the sense of humor that he brings into the stories, especially few of the one liners. I tend to read those one liners repeatedly and still enjoy them. The one where he experiments with reading the story top down and bottom up is a good attempt. Since most of these stories are almost inspired by real life incidents, I could related myself in such stories.
To the prospective readers, buy this book and read the stories only during your coffee or tea breaks, that too one story per break and I am sure that you will enjoy this.
Thanks Vinod and keep writing.
At times it might be an idea or the freshness of a tale that would attract you or rather inspire you. After reading this fast paced cup of tea as long as a T20 match, i felt all the same-fresh, inspired, relaxed and finally had a sweet oblivious smile that did bring a feeling of unique personal happiness.
There is a hidden profound message in every story in this book, but it makes you comprehend the depth of the message with the affection of a true friend, rather than as an advising elder...
There is romance in air every now and then, but not the cheesy fragile one that may leave a docile impression upon you.
The frustrations and fun in a techie's life, the glorious impact of little-yet very significant things in your life(like a fifty paisa,a cup of coffee, an auto driver's impression),the flexible approach in story telling which amazes you(the same story with different meaning, when narrated forward or backward respectively)- In short its nothing short of a masterpiece...
Some books are real exceptions. But very few remain to be an example. Vinod's Tea-20 is an exemplary exception for an exceptional example...Absolutely fell in love with it:):):)...read it and you will know why :)
Tea â 20 is the real companion for the teatime and the travel. The way author looked his surrounding and way of narration is amazing. This simple way of Vinod writing about the Society, family life and funny narration about the IT work style drives me to read all the stories in a short span.
This book is not to inspire, but this is to read and recognize the importance of mixture of a right composition of fun, study and work as explained in âA CUP OF COFFEEâ.
An expression of love through a small BYE, philosophical message of a DRUKEN GENIUS, a thriller WHO AM I?, the secret of success of Master Blaster this time it is not Boost but secret which boosts him, the way a child looks the society is worthy and these stories are worth to say as a bedtime stories for the Kids. The people of different age slabs should read this book because, I believe the book is about us. My final opinion about the book Tea-20 is âThe stories of the people are well presented to the peopleâ.
