THE TELL- TALE BRAIN (Paperback) Price: Rs.219

A fascinating journey into the human brain by a leading neuroscientist

The brain remains a mystery to us. How can a three-pound mass of jelly that can fit in our palm imagine angels, contemplate the meaning of infinity, and even question its own place in the cosmos? Renowned neuroscientist Prof. V.S. Ramachandran takes us on a fascinating journey into the human brain by studying patients who exhibit bizarre symptoms and using them to understand the functions of a normal brain.

Along the way he asks big questions:
How did abstract thinking evolve?
What is art?
Why do we laugh?
How are these hardwired into the neural mechanisms of the human brain, and why did they evolve?

Brilliant, lucid, and utterly compelling, The Tell-Tale Brain is a path- breaking book from one of the leading neuroscientists.

About The Author
V.S. Ramachandran is the Director of the Center for Brain and Cognition, Professor in the Psychology Department and Neurosciences Programme at the University of California, San Diego, and Adjunct Professor of Biology at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. He has also been elected to fellowships at All Souls College, Oxford, and the Royal Institution, London (which also awarded him the Henry Dale Medal), and has received the Padma Bhushan. Newsweek named him a member of ?The Century Club?, and one of the ?one hundred most prominent people to watch? in the twenty-first century.

The wonderful mass of jelly.

I read this book after reading "Phantoms in the brain". But do not worry even if you haven't read 'Phantoms..'. Not having read the older book only gives you one more reason to pick up the new one.

The sheer brilliance of Dr. Ramachandran left me amazed once again. The book, like his previous works, explains the functioning of the human brain in an extremely comprehensible manner. You do not have to be a neurologist. heck, you do not even have to be someone with a science background!
All you need is interest in the subject and this book will take you to an undiscovered yet wonderful territory.

The delivery was a little delayed but the price was the lowest I could've got, the quality and packaging was great and the bookmark made me laugh a little.

The awesomeness of 1.5kgs of Jelly

I have never read a book over 200 pages. This book is about 400 pages and I am enjoying reading it. The book might be about the most complex organ in Human Body, but its written in the most simple manner possible with an engaging conversational style.

Inspite of being a world reputed Neurologist, the experiments Mr. Ramachandran uses is very simple but effective. Just shows how doctors today have become too addicted to technology.

All you need to enjoy the book is the simple curiosity of how the Human Brain is so amazing.

The Brain sure tells an exciting tale.

I bought the book after reading the reviews and gazing into its 5 Star rating for unreasonably long time. The author treats the brain as a black box and tries to understand its functionality by studying patients with physiological brain abnormality resulting in phantom limbs, synaesthesia, apraxia, autism etc.

Must read :
Chapter 6,the power of babble delves into evolution of language Chapter 7,On what makes us like what we like and what the world likes in general(aesthetics).

A great journey to the depths of the brain

I was actually surprised after starting to read the book since I had not expected this much information to have been piled up into a single book . The novel ideas and research that he puts down and weaves each theory with the next one to explain the basic essence of the whole chapter.

All in all a must read if you want to know a great deal about the brain! You wont be disappointed the least bit.
