The second edition of Textbook Of Microbiology has been extensively and thoroughlyrevised. Chapters on hepatitis viruses, oncogenic (tumour) viruses, slow virusinfections and prions, and biological warfare havebeen added. Contributions of various scientists in the field of microbiologyhave been added in the chapters on microbiology (a brief history) and syndromes,in relation to virology, have been added in the chapter on infective syndromes.The chapters on growth and nutrition of bacteria, identification of bacteria,sterilization and disinfection, chemotherapy, bacterial genetics, bacteria inhealth diseases, autoimmunity, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Retroviridae andmycology have been enlarged. Clinically important modifications and additionshave been made in all the chapters. All the colour plates have been replaced andthe number of colour figures has been increased. More than half of the diagramshave been replaced and a few new diagrams have been added. For further readingreferences have been added.
