  • Description
Young, impetuous and drawn to each other like gnats to resin, Samar Solanki and Sara Shergill try furiously to avoid falling in love but slowly succumb. All hell breaks loose as Samars conservative Rajput family swears vendetta, locking Samar away on the eve of their clandestinely-planned wedding. They vow to eliminate Sara, the audacious girl who has dreamt of sullying their pedigreed lineage, from Samars life. Through that lonely autumn in Awadh, bereft of hope, fettered and helpless, the star- crossed lovers cling to the faith they have in each other, as they brave many storms together. This novel about love is peppered, generously, with the authors characteristic droll wit as it traipses through sensational turns of events that keep you absorbed till the very end.

Writing about romance is an easy task . But weaving a romantic story that makes you smile , brightens up your mind , thrills you and sometimes gives you a shiver down your spine is definitely a titanic task . That Autumn in Awadh by Rachna Singh is a love story to it’s very core and is sure to evoke a myriad of feelings in the mind of the reader , some sweet , some sour and a few bitter ones .

    A Sublime Love Story!

I absolutely loved the book, right from the "Introduction". Rachna has a unique ability to imbue humour in what could have otherwise been a very soppy love story. The story made me feel outraged in some parts, amused in certain others but still left me feeling touched by the lovers deep conviction in their love for each other. I have read Rachna's previous 2 books as well, and I honestly think she's just getting better with each successive book. Keep them coming Rachna!

    An awesome love story!!

I have read two of Rachna’s books and just like the others ‘That Autumn in Awadh’ is definitely worth reading. I liked the story, and it grabbed me very early on. This wholly engrossing, heartfelt and exquisitely crafted story takes you into the lives of Samar and Sara. The characters are real, their flaws genuine and it is a story of you and me. I laughed, I nodded in agreement, I had the glint in my eye at some breath-taking moments, I simply loved the book.
    It is indeed beautifully writ...

The language - Simple; The Humor - Fresh; The experience - Rich.

‘An Autumn in Awadh’ is my first book by Rachna.
The story is simple. It is your story. It is my story. It is a story that is unfolding in our own backyard; so much so that you start relating to Samar and Sara. You will love Uncle David when he understands and supports the two love birds. You will curse Hari Om Mama when he ruthlessly locks up Samar. You will smile at Debuda’s accent and are horrified at the stalkers audacity of harassing Sara.
Rachna has an amazing style of writing. ...

A cultural miasma of Lucknow with a twist of love and longing

An intense love flows in the background of Awadh, brings a cultural city connection in a love twist. It strikes an quick pace and leaves the reader with hope, a sense of familiarity. Usually love transcends borders, here, the Awadh brings to love a tip to the icing

    A vibrant and fresh read

The Autumn in Awadh, as the name describes, was just like Autumn – vibrant and full of life. Rachna’s writing is so engaging that I just wanted to never keep the book down! With a very personal style of writing, she brings the characters to life with ease.

Not much of a reader of romance, this book was pleasantly surprising and tasteful. Looking forward to many more from Rachna.

Colouful and magical as the autumn

Rachna takes you on a creative imagination that is simply superb. Her day-to-day style of writing is easy on the reader and the book offers a very cinematic experience. The interesting thing about this book is that you don't like to read it in parts but like to read it at one go. But you always end up reading it again!
For me it was like watching a movie...that's one reason why I thought the ending was too sudden and too simple...my filmy self expected some dramatic ending with all the regul...

    Awesome.....

Even after a decade and a half, Rachna brings to life That Autumn in Awadh, the bitter sweet story as it unfolded during those years. Having started my career at Telco at that period, it was a great re-live of the nostalgia, gossip and smiles that the characters mentioned generated, then and since. Rachna personifies simplicity in her style, laced with loads of rib ticking humour - an amazing combo which makes the book unputdownable.

    Engaging!

Its a sometime breezy, sometimes poignant and all the time engaging book. The narrative is rich and transports the reader to a simpler time.. we do see glimpses of Rachna's whacky humor in bits; but, its mainly romance, heartbreak and romance all through. A must read!
