Book Summary of The (In) eligible Bachelors

Arranged marriages are complicated things. So are mothers. And so are relationships.

Kasturi Shukla is a fresh MBA graduate with a great job in hand. She is also geeky and single at twenty-four. The biggest sore spot in Kasturi’s life is her dominating, arranged marriage obsessed mother now hell-bent on getting her married at the earliest.

Does Kasturi find love in one of the rather weird but IIT/IIM boys that Mum manages to ‘shortlist’? Or perhaps she can follow her wildly beating heart that seems to be set on the Greek God incarnate that her boss, Rajeev sir, is?

With office buddies Ananya and Varun by her side, the hilariously fumbling Kasturi embarks on a rip-roaring journey to find Mr Right.

The (In)eligible Bachelors, which chronicles Kasturi’s daily diary through this time, is a riotous adventure of adrenaline, laughter and guffaws.

It is also an invaluable lesson in love, family and friendship.
  • A witty take on the system of arranged marriages, the marriage market that rules the Indian society.
  • A witty and humorous easy-to-read writing style makes for a good read.
  • The creative chapter headings arouse the what-next quality.

The (In)eligible Bachelors -A must read for all victims of arranged marriage syndrome

The transition from a blogger to an author is a recurring dream of all bloggers, including me.But very few actually make it. I have known Ruchita Misra, through her blog, and when I came to know that she is working on a book, I just couldn't wait to read it. I have never pre-ordered a book and have always waited for reviews. But this time, I just couldn't wait, for two reasons. First, it was Ruchita, whose blog I became addicted to, within a matter of minutes and I always was a fan of her witty but sensible posts. And second, the book was about something, I am facing in real life at the moment.

The (In)eligible Bachelors makes for an interesting and compelling read. I could not really lay my hands off it, till I reached the end.It is a story about relationships, some real and some fake.

The book is in the form of diary entries written by Kasturi, the protagonist who is forced to meet the so called eligible bachelors, for marital purposes. These meetings, mostly make up for the funny situations the protagonist falls into and make a nice read.I have literally laughed out loud.Being a independent young woman and forced to meet one loser after another,is the fate of so many girls these days and Ruchita has hit bull's eye in capturing the right emotion. While reading the book, so many time it felt, as , if this is the story of all the golden misses out there, struggling to find the perfect man, but he doesn't really exist in the real world.

The characters are very well sketched and one feels an instant connection with all of them.Every character and situation is believable and doesn't really seem to be bookish or fake. The book is, no doubt, about how an independent young woman handles the arrange marriage fiasco. But,it is also about friendship. And courage.

The story unfolds really fast and there is not a single dull moment.Although it is a little predictable towards the end, I really didn't mind that because I was having a great time reading this one.

All in all, a great read! One moment I had tears in my eyes and the next, I was smiling ear to ear, and the next I was laughing out loud!

Great work, Ruchita. Loved it! :-)

One chronicle which every bachelor would like/love to read!!!

‎The(In)Eligible Bachelors is a laugh riot from beginning to end. Hilarious would be an understatement. It’s simply unputdownable ... fast, witty, & relatable characters. The first book ever which made me laugh out loud at oh! so many points! Kasturi’s diary is one chronicle which every bachelor would like/love to read.
Seeing my late night reactions, my mom is now reading it after almost a decade. The sight of her reading, laughing and smiling throughout surely makes this book a treat for everybody.
I wish this chronicle turns into a major motion picture one fine day. My heartiest congratulations.

Must Read!

The (In)Eligible Bachelors by Ruchita Misra gives u exactly what it promises- " riotous adventure of adrenaline, laughter and guffaws." and a lot more. The book comes alive as a motion picture. The events have been described so vividly that i was livin kasturi's life for those 2.5 hours while i was flying from Delhi to Chennai.

You can relate to the characters and kasturi's mother is such a darling! Had blatantly told my parents never to drag me in the great indian arrange marriage tamasha. But after readin and thouroghly enjoying TIB i think i shuld give it a go! Its so much fun;) This is so much i can talk about the book without giving away the story!

TIB by Ruchita Misra

While reading the book, you dont feel like you are reading a book. Its more like someone's telling you a story and makes the book unputdownable. The laughs you get are genuine, the situations real(apart from the mafia involvement - mafia in a book on marriages!!! Read book for more details ;)) and the characters immensely likeable esp the calm and silent Dr.Purva.

The book showcases the power of friendship. how people change when in love, how people overlook the obvious when in love and how things they think they know are not there anymore.

Read the book if you have a special friend, one who would do anything for you, one who wouldnt hesitate to tell you anything, even if meant hurting you for your own good and if you want to relive the moments with those friends.

The ending, even though expected halfway through the book, was the best part. The emotional depth and maturity in the end made it like a sweet dessert at the end of a sumptuous meal. There was a apricot in the dessert which I dont think quite fitted with the dessert but I think I can let that pass.(For those who dont know me : I dont like the taste of apricot in my food)

Final Verdict : Definitely a must read, not too much about arranged marriages but definitely a lot about friendship, love and how life must move on!!!
