The Affair (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.266

March 1997. A woman has her throat cut behind a bar in Carter Crossing, Mississippi. Just down the road is a big army base. Is the murderer a local guy - or is he a soldier?

Jack Reacher, still a major in the military police, is sent in undercover. The county sheriff is a former U.S. Marine - and a stunningly beautiful woman. Her investigation is going nowhere. Is the Pentagon stonewalling her? Or doesn't she really want to find the killer?

The adrenaline-pumping, high-voltage action in The Affair is set just six months before the opening of Killing Floor, and it marks a turning point in Reacher's career. If he does what the army wants, will he be able to live with himself? And if he doesn't, will the army be able to live with him? Is this his last case in uniform?

His novels consistently achieve the number one slot in hardback and paperback on bestsellers lists on both sides of the Atlantic, and are translated into over forty languages. His debut novel, Killing Floor, was written after he was made redundant from his television job in Manchester, and introduced his much-admired maverick hero, the former military cop Jack Reacher. He won the prestigious Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year 2011 prize with 61 Hours. Born in Coventry, he now lives in America.

Really good read

A must for all Reacher fans. This one goes right to the beginning and sets up Reacher for the whole series. Lee Child also gives us an insight into Reacher's family background and his early influences. His personality though remains the same and this is another sure shot page turner. Unlike the future when he takes the law into his own hands here he is with the law and sent by his boss to investigate a murder. Enjoyable read. Meet some of the characters who you will come across later in the series.

First of the Jack Reacher

The book tells you, why Reacher left MP. Tells you why he is always found as drifter. His fighting skills. Foundation of each and every quality Reacher has, foundation is there in the book.

So really want to know about the history of Jack Reacher, go ahead and grab this book.

One more point the book do have a great murder mystery plot but a weak climax to which will tend to let you run in the end rather than keeping interest till the end.

thanks will come back with review of The Firm by John Grisham

A good read.

A suspense novel from one of the masters of crime writing. A good read. A must read for the fans of Lee Child franchise. This book is a prequel set six months before Child's first novel, Killing Floor and forms the backdrop of the explosive circumstances under which Jack Reacher's career in the United States Army was terminated.

Kick-Ass !!

This is vintage quintessential Lee Child at its best. Reacher is young and is doing what he does best. A must read for the fans of this particular franchise. Its a prequel to killing floor but at the same time there is this beautiful continuity. Quite sweetly ironical. Amazing read !
