March 1997. A woman has her throat cut behind a bar in Carter Crossing, Mississippi. Just down the road is a big army base. Is the murderer a local guy - or is he a soldier?
Jack Reacher, still a major in the military police, is sent in undercover. The county sheriff is a former U.S. Marine - and a stunningly beautiful woman. Her investigation is going nowhere. Is the Pentagon stonewalling her? Or doesn't she really want to find the killer?
The adrenaline-pumping, high-voltage action in The Affair is set just six months before the opening of Killing Floor, and it marks a turning point in Reacher's career. If he does what the army wants, will he be able to live with himself? And if he doesn't, will the army be able to live with him? Is this his last case in uniform?
About the Author
Lee Child is one of the world's leading thriller writers. His novels consistently achieve the number one slot in hardback and paperback on bestsellers lists on both sides of the Atlantic, and are translated into over forty languages. His debut novel, Killing Floor, was written after he was made redundant from his television job in Manchester, and introduced his much-admired maverick hero, the former military cop Jack Reacher. He won the prestigious Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year 2011 prize with 61 Hours. Born in Coventry, he now lives in America.

A must for all Reacher fans. This one goes right to the beginning and sets up Reacher for the whole series. Lee Child also gives us an insight into Reacher's family background and his early influences. His personality though remains the same and this is another sure shot page turner. Unlike the future when he takes the law into his own hands here he is with the law and sent by his boss to investigate a murder. Enjoyable read. Meet some of the characters who you will come across later in the series.
A suspense novel from one of the masters of crime writing. A good read. A must read for the fans of Lee Child franchise. This book is a prequel set six months before Child's first novel, Killing Floor and forms the backdrop of the explosive circumstances under which Jack Reacher's career in the United States Army was terminated.
I have always been a fan of the Reacher series and have read all the books. This book, the Affair, has something different from the other titles of the series. This book takes us to start of the place where Reacher becomes what he is today.
The prose, flow and suspense in the book is sensational.
This is vintage quintessential Lee Child at its best. Reacher is young and is doing what he does best. A must read for the fans of this particular franchise. Its a prequel to killing floor but at the same time there is this beautiful continuity. Quite sweetly ironical. Amazing read !
