The Alchemist (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.961

Through a simple story, a fable of a boy seeking his fortune in distant lands, The Alchemist teaches the reader about the true things of value in life.

Summary Of The Book

The Alchemist tells the story of Santiago, a young shepherd, who lives in the Andalusian region of Spain. He is disturbed by a recurring dream. This dream occurs whenever he sleeps under a sycamore tree in the ruins of a church in his village. In this dream, he is told by a boy that he will find treasure hidden under an Egyptian pyramid.

Believing this dream to be prophetic, he decides to set out on a journey to Egypt. Throughout the journey, Santiago, meets many interesting people who influence his action and direct him towards his goal.

When he starts on his journey, he meets an old King named Melchizedek, who introduces the idea of Personal Legend. The Personal Legend is what every person wants to do in life, when they are very young. It is their mission in life. The old man tells Santiago to seek his own Personal Legend.

Santiago arrives in Tangiers and loses the money he made from selling his sheep. He works for a crystal merchant who teaches him a lot of things. When he leaves the place, he is a rich man. He then continues his journey, on to Egypt.

While in Egypt, he comes across an Englishman who is seeking an alchemist, said to be around 200 years old, who lives in this region. The Englishman wants to learn the secrets of alchemy from him. Santiago continues his journey, towards the pyramids, encountering many more people who influence his life and his views.

The Alchemist teaches the readers the importance of following one's dream and not being put off by fears and doubts. This book became an international bestseller, selling over 30 million copies. It also won the Guinness World Record for most translated book.
