The international bestseller about a shepherd boy who learns how to live his dreams.
Paulo Coelho’s enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world, and this tenth anniversary edition, with a new introduction from the author, will only increase that following. This story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and inspiring wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasures found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.

Your heart leads to where your treasure liesSantiago, a sheperd boy, has the same dream twice. He sees treasure hidden near the pyramids of Egypt. He then embarks on a journey to find the treasure and fulfill his destiny. Along his way are many ups and downs. He is robbed of all his savings, is led off track, desires to quit his quest, finds companionship and love, and learns to trust his heart. He learns to understand the 'language of the universe', 'langusge of the dessert', language of the wind' and 'the soul of the world'. That's not something I can describe here...it's something that can be understood- but not put into words.

ScintillatingI purchased the alchemist with certainly no prejudices in mind, other than the fact that it is targeted at readers constantly interested in “self-improvement”.

The Alchemist is Okay; not greatThis book was okay. I think the message of this book is follow your dreams. I liked it; but I am not sure that I would recommend it. I enjoyed the imagery of The Alchemist. The story moved a bit slowly. It wasn't a page turner, but it wasn't a tough read either. The Alchemist is a nice fable;but, that's it.

Awesommme !This is an awesome book...one of the books by Paulo Coehlo which I have reread multiple times. It sort of helps you restore faith n hope when things dont seem to fall in place :) ! I can also relate the message in this book to the one in "The Secret". Both books talk about following your dream, asking the universe for what you really want and having the elements of the universe conspire to make things work for you !
