The Book of Ram (Paperback) Price: Rs.175

Written by one of India’s foremost mythologists, The Book Of Rama presents readers with a holistic view of Rama, his family, teachers, and his eternal nemesis, Ravana.

Summary Of The Book

Written by Devdutt Pattanaik, The Book Of Ram is written keeping in mind the alternate versions of the Ramayana that exist around the world. The book thoroughly analyses Rama’s character on the basis of his relationship with those dear to him. It tries to justify the many titles that Rama bears, like Eka-vachani, or the king who always keeps his word, Eka-bani, or the archer who hits his target with just one arrow, and Eka-patni, the supremely faithful husband.

Pattanaik shows Rama from the point of view of the people who played a role in the Ramayana. The chapters are based on Rama’s role as Dashrath’s Son, Vishwamitra’s Student, Sita’s Husband, and Ravana’s Enemy, among others. Pattanaik also clearly defines Rama from his childhood in Ayodhya, to when he’s taken by the sage Vishwamitra to take his first steps into manhood.

The Book Of Ram also clearly defines the difference in personality of Rama’s two gurus. The royal sage Vashista is contrasted against the warrior sage Vishwamitra, both of whom leave an indelible mark on the prince. While Vashista teaches the young prince on the right way to have relations with the world, the harsh Vishwamitra shows the prince that Dharma should be carried out, regardless of what the obstacle may be.

The contrast between Vashista and Vishwamitra is further highlighted by their origins. While Vashista was born a sage, Vishwamitra gained his spiritual powers only after renouncing the ways of the warrior.

The Book Of Ram also goes into detail about the necessary values that can be learnt from Rama’s life. The themes like forgiving human frailness, but staying disciplined and focused on one’s objectives are highlighted through various stories, like that of Ahalya.

Amazing book and amazing flipkart

The service: This was my first order from the site although i knew it previously. I got the book right on the next day of order! The service is really good and cheers to flipkart for that.

The book: The book is a study of the legend and king Ram, his legacy and his relevance in modern times. Devdutt does a wonderful job of piecing together anecdotes from various sources on Ram and why he is so revered. I'd recommend the book to anyone who would like to know how Ram was as a person.

Some background on Ramayana might be necessary. Thumbs up to Devdutt for his passion, which is unmistakably evident in the book and his writing.

A good attempt

Thanks for flipkart for the good discounts and sending the book quickly.

About the book - I feel all of the Devdutt Pattnaik books are a bit costly. This book should be around 130 to 150/-

Devdutt has done a good attempt in explaining situations in Ramayan according to his logic. But as we all know everyone has different logic & different thought process. From adhyatm point of view one can give different explanation. His explanation is mainly related to society , civilization.

overall it is a good read and can start ur thought process on Ramayan.

Nice Book

The Book Is very Small in size to even contain the entire Ramayan But Devudutt Has Managed to Pull up and present the facts incoprated with the episodes of Ram's Life and invoke the intelectual side of our brain..
The beginning of the the covers entire Ramayana in one go...But then there are episodes throughout the book Along with many unknown Charecters that captivates our mind...
There were many questions about the behaviour of ram with Sita which has always intrigued me..This being the sole reason for me to buy this book..All these questions has been answered by Mr Patnaik..
The Last Pages of the Book has to be read by us again and again and has to be stored in our mind so that we know the real purpose of Ram when we read, hear or view about LORD RAM

Good Book

This is really a good book. Gives food for thought for new generation people. There are lot of insides in the book and different angles to look at the mythological characters. What I liked was the way Devdutt has applied the modern era thoughts to the stories that have been quoted. Since we are living in Kaliyug we would rarely find any RAM in today's world.

Book gives a fresh new perspective

Loved reading this book. It wonderfully narrates the Ramayana with a fresh new perspective, Ram has been elaborated as a son, a brother, a husband and as a king of Ayodha. Devdutt Pattanaik's style of writing is wonderful. The book of Ram is definitely a must read.
