    Flipkart Official Review

A model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony. Everyone thinks it is suicide – a case that needs to be shut. The brother is doubtful. Enters private detective Cormoron Strike, with his own haunting past, wanting to solve the crime at any cost. This in short is the plot of “The Cuckoo’s Calling” – written by J.K. Rowling under the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith.

The literary world has been going crazy with the revelation of the writer. Despite that and more so probably beyond that, the book is stupendously written. Strike makes for a great detective – almost as good as Poirot or Maigret. The pages just keep turning with this one and the reader will not realize when the book is over. “The Cuckoo’s Calling” is ace-crime fiction. It doesn’t relent and doesn’t get boring at any given time. The book is one great treat to sink into this fall.

Cormoran Strike, a private investigator, is out to investigate the murder of supermodel, Lula Landry. Strike is about to discover things about the glamorous world as he had never imagined and more. He is accompanied by his smart and efficient assistant secretary, Robin.

    Summary of the Book

Cormoran Strike, a detective who hasn’t been doing too well in his field of service due to personal reasons, is out to find out the mystery behind the murder of supermodel, Lula Landry. When hired by her adopted brother, John Bristow, it is seemed as though the supermodel’s death is actually a suicide. Strike realizes later, after a series of interviews with those who knew and were closest to Lula, that it was infact a murder. In the circle of friends and family of the glamorous model, Strike gets increasingly involved in the complicated path that is leading to her murderer.

A solid muggle detective story (oh yes, she's done it again!)

I wasn't very thrilled about The Casual Vacancy, JKR's entree into adult fiction. In fact, it wasn't my thing at all. I couldn't even finish it.

But with The Cuckoo's Calling JKR's done it again. She's brought back the warmth I always associated with Hogwarts in this solid muggle detective story! The writing is BRILLIANT- with lines I found myself highlighting and smiling at. I love the quirkiness in her descriptions and how well fleshed out the characters were. Their accents, their airs, th...

Rowling weaves her magic even in crime fiction...

Rowling is very good at story telling and portraying the various characters in her book. The literature is fresh and crisp. When it comes to detective work, the only other books i have read are from Sherlock Holmes & Hercule Poirot, and clearly they are the best when it comes to crime solving. But Rowling shines in her brilliant story telling.

Journey is better than the destination !!!

It looks like a film script. No wonder if it turns into one. I am reading a lot of crime fiction lately. I have just finished all of Sherlock Holmes & 4 titles of Hercule Piorot. It was obvious for me to make comparisons with those. Some of those are:-

    1) Sherlock & Hercule already are so hallowed that when you read those book/story, you treat it with a certain familiarity but here you are reading a book with a fresh perspective of exploring an unknown detective

    2) Book is written more in f...

    Value-for-money

this book was the first crime thriller book that I ever read and I'm glad it turned out to be a good read. it kept me excited for the next part in its story all the time.i couldn't keep my hands of it for long. I feel like when people read a crime thriller, they develop a strategy themselves of looking for the criminal but mine just failed and I was totally blown at the revelation. glad that happened.
the series has got a lot of difference, compared to key points in the original story so I d...

    Wonderful

A different flavour from J.K.Rowling, it is a good read. Not particularly thrilling, yet pacy and exciting. Suspense, drama and moments of relief all combined together gives a nice touch to the story. It's of a different kind altogether.

Rowling has written Better but still a must read

The book is very well written by Rowling. It has a good flow and an engrossing story line .It starts very well and is very mysterious .It is about a detective Mr Strike. The only problem in the book is that it become a little uninteresting after 400 pages.I was going to stop reading it but forced myself to continue. The suspense was very good and could not be guessed. It was also supported with a good reason. It is a one time read and cannot be read another time like the Harry Potter series. All r...

    Good Read

Quite different from the usual JK Rowling style of writing. Or should I mentioned Gailbraith ;)

Wont rate it and compare it to the best books that are available around. However, this is a good casual read which don’t bore you also. Last but not the least, there is no beating around the bush.

"The Cuckoo's Calling" a is good read. Apart from JK's lengthy descriptions the content was good. A nicely written, suttle and decent thriller with right amount of drama and suspence. A good attempt by JK. Being her first thriller I rated it as 4 star.
