Summary of the Book

When Hercule Poirot receives an invitation from crime enthusiast Lady Angkatell, all he expects is a boring weekend speaking about his past achievements. When he arrives at the scene, he finds an elaborate scene set up for him. A doctor's body lies in a puddle of red paint, his timid wife stands over his body with a gun and other guests wear a look of horror. But this is no ploy, the paint is real blood and the look of horror is as real as any in the scene of the crime. It is up to Poirot to prove or disprove the wife's innocence, under seemingly impossible circumstances. Especially since the gun she was holding was dropped into a pool by mistake. Even more so since the gun the doctor was shot with was of an entirely different calibre. Can Poirot work his magic once again, or has the little Belgian detective finally found his match?

Her play, The Mousetrap, holds the record as the longest initial run of any play in history, running at the West End of London since 1952. She was bestowed with the Order of the British Empire for her contributions towards English literature.
