The Immortals of Meluha (Paperback) Price: Rs.113

Shiva, one of the chief Hindu deities, is portrayed in an entirely different light in Amish Tripathi's debut novel, The Immortals of Meluha. The first book of The Shiva Trilogy, The Immortals of Meluha charts Shiva's journey from the mountains with his Tibetan tribesmen to the kingdom of Meluha, which is occupied by the Suryavanshis, a race of people who are descendants of Lord Ram and live along the banks of the River Saraswati.

When an episode involving the preserving drug somras leaves his throat blue, Shiva is hailed as the 'Mahadev' according to an ancient prophecy, the man who'll lead the Suryavanshis to victory against the Chandravanshis. Caught in the middle of a tense conflict, Shiva must now make some quick decisions to save Meluha from the wrath of the evil Chandravanshis and their twisted and disfigured assassins, The Nagas.

Will Shiva be able to rise to the occasion and save the clan of the Suryavanshis?

Why does the Princess Sati shy away from speaking to him every single time?

Who are the Nagas, and why are they assisting the Chandravanshis?

Set in 1990 B.C., the book takes readers on an imaginative and exciting journey through Amish's world.

Upon its release, The Immortals of Meluha received positive reviews from critics. It became a surprise bestseller in the first week of its release.

Nice concept, well written and some daring ideas

Nice concept, well written and some daring ideas- they very well summarise this book. The language is simple and lucid. You get a feeling like you are reading a comic. This is not a history book, some of the ideas are really daring and cannot stand the scrutiny of penetrating historians. I, especially liked the idea of the meaning of "Har Har Mahadev". In short, I think the book is immensely readable and the writer can really go a long way. BUT, I would like to suggest something to Amish. By writing a trilogy, I hope he knows what he's doing. A new writer, his first book.....and incomplete. Asking your readers to keep waiting for the next episode----isn't it a bit too much to ask for, Mr. Amish. So I suggest the next book be complete in itself. The trilogy can very well be in sequels rather than episodes. Good luck!

Awesome book and other top books

There are few authors in India who write exceptionally well. Amish is one of those. I am a vivid reader and read almost all the books that come my way. This stands fifth.

1. Corporate Chanakya
2. That's the way we met - Sudeep Nagarkar
3. How I braved Any Aunty - Varun Aggarwal
4. The Backbenchers - Siddharth Oberoi
5. The immortals of Melhua- Amish Tripathi

An interesting read

A well written book that uses familiar mythological events and characters in a more human setting. Despite some silly references I still found myself unable to put the book down. Will definitely read the sequels coming out soon. Give this book a shot. If you like fantasy you will not regret it

Poor novel Great marketing

A good attempt for a banker who has been moonlighting for years to write not just a novel but a trilogy to begin with and then show exemplary marketing skills to pump up the sales anyhow to make it sound like a best seller. Good to see that so many people have actually taken up to reading novels from contemporary authors.
I give the credit to the author for touching upon some good topics (superficially though) i.e. the trilogy between PERFECTION (Suryavashi way of life), IMPERFECTION (Chandravashi way of life) and DISTORTION (Naga way of life) using Shiva to unite these for attaining a common objective. However the plot of the story got burried in the dust of over-emphasis on Vikarma and castigation of Nagas.
Even the concept of polarisation of Masculinity and Feminity was not done due justice with.
I liked the lines "nobody is a bye-stander in a dharmayudha, eaveryone is bound to take sides" and "just because they are different doesn't mean they are evil" and "to destroy evil, one has to first identify the evil".
What i did not like is the blasphemous characterisation of Hindu Gods. Shiva is portrayed as a Tibetian warrior with rare dancing skills who falls for pretty women, disbelieves in religion, pouts to blow kisses at his wife during yagnas, smokes grass un-inhibited, and slaps out bawdy jokes.... Sati as a widow, kali and Ganesh as ostracised people born with deformity, Gopal (Krsna) as a pandit in a temple, Parshurama as a mindless bandit in the Sunderbans, and lot more gross references. Had it not been a dig at the most docile religion, any other religion would have given the author a run for his life.
No wonder it is loved so much by those who feel that bashing religion is in fashion.
Even as a trilogy the first books fails to convey anything at all. It is a mere prolonged introduction to the second book with an abrupt end. They second book actually drives home some plot of the story.
I hope the third book brings out some improvement in the writing skills and the editors won't have to work too hard.

Interest - Lost & Found

not long ago I was an avid reader of books until audio books came by and other interests preceded by hungry to read and be addicted to books until I read The Immortals of Meluha last month in 2 days!!! This was one hell of a page turner and I simply couldnt believe the fact that people in India have started to write some simply amazing books which cater to a large audience who have been longing for... What Amish has done is simple fantastic as most of the young Indian Authors in the past have stuck to the usual youth rom-com books. This is a wonderful book and this has triggered a chain of events in my family where they are longing to read it as soon as others are done with the book.

And as a matter of fact, I booked The Secret of the Nagas book immediately after reading the first 2 chapters... And to top it up, Flipkart has been amazing and your site UI as smooth as a butter and sometimes better than Amazon's look n feel. I wish all the success and luck for Flipkart as well as Amish...

And BTW, Waiting desperately to hear about the 2nd book!!!
