Description

The Orange Box is a compilation of games brought out by Valve Corp. The collection is from their famed Half Life series of games that deals with aliens and a dystopian future where we humble humans are ruled by a brutal invasive force of aliens who hail from another dimension, far from our known reality.

The Orange Box released on October of 2007 and has since been hailed as one of the best FPS or First Person Shooters of all time, up until that year. The game and its updates are also available through Steam which released it online at around the same time. The Orange Box compilation contains within it a total of five games, which include Half Life 2, Episode One, and Episode Two, together with Portal and Team Fortress 2.

Half Life 2 features the protagonist Gordan Freeman, who used to be a scientist at Black Mesa Research Facility who was involved in dimensional science and portal navigation. The experiments there went wrong one day and opened up our world to an intermediary dimension called the Xen, the events in Half Life 2 show what happens since that world changing event took place and the alien race known simply as The Combine came knocking at our doorstep.

Episode One is a continuation of the story of Half Life 2 after the escape from City 17, the place where the Combine settled on earth. The story revolves around Freeman and Alex Vince, who he met in the events culminating in Half Life 2. She is the daughter of Eli Vance, the leader of the resistance comprising of humans who wish to expel the Combine from the earth and reclaim the planet.

Episode Two continues from where Episode One ends, outside City 17 again, where the Citadel has just exploded and sent out a message to the Combine home world that reinforcements are needed. What the humans find out because of Freeman and Alex is that the Citadel has also opened a portal connecting the two worlds and the portal is expanding, eventually becoming big enough to allow for a massive Combine fleet to enter the atmosphere of earth and take it over. Alex has smuggled some data from the Citadel before it blew up and discovered that it contains encrypted codes for closing the portal.

Valve has a history of great storytelling skills by way of their games and this is seen even in their Puzzle game called Portal. The game involves creating individual portals to travel within and solve physical space-time puzzles that could not be possible without the revolutionary Portal Gun, all for a piece of yummy cake of course.

The Orange Box has a PEGI rating of 16 and is designed for the PC. Team Fortress 2 is a purely multiplayer based game that is engaging and adrenaline pumping at its full potential. All the games featured in the Orange Box have single and multiplayer modes which means it will provide for hours upon hours of entertainment for hardcore and casual gamers alike.

Features:

Five Games, One Box - The Orange Box is the ultimate collection of innovative action games for the PC, and an amazing introduction to the Half-Life series for PC gamers.

Epic Storyline - Half-Life 2: Episode Two takes you deeper into one of the best-known stories in gaming, following the desperate struggle of Gordon Freeman against the mysterious Combine. In this episode, you must leave the confines of City 17 for the first time and face even greater dangers beyond the city walls.

Redefining Action - Portal delivers an innovative new action gaming experience. Arming you with a portal gun that lets you create portals from one location to another with the press of a button, Portal will forever change the way that you interact with your environment.

World-Class Multiplayer - Team Fortress 2 is the sequel to granddaddy of role-based multiplayer action games. Featuring nine distinct roles - Heavy, Spy, Scout, Demoman, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, Soldier, and Pyro—Team Fortress 2 is one of this year's most anticipated multiplayer games for any platform.

The Orange Box

Before buying this just make sure that you do have a high speed internet connection or else you wont be able to play any games. The games need to be updated before they can be played via steam.
I also got a nice Orange Box Gaming mousepad free with it..so overall its a great deal. The games still rock and the storyline is really great with beautiful graphics.
One thing that is needed to keep in mind is that after activation steam will try to download all the games from the internet instead of i...

Pleasant Surprise

I received this package just 20 minutes ago. I won't comment in detail about Half Life 2, the two episodes, Portal 2 or TF2 because nothing need to be said. any gamer worth his/her salt knows that these are true classics. HL 2 and Episodes 1 & 2 carry forward the original half life's legacy, the sheer scale, deep story, and incredible visuals, sound, gameplay and atmospherics, though with one of the best game engines 2 date, "Source" the game looks gorgeous even now,8-9 years later when Battl...

FRUSTRATING INSTALLATION BUT AWESOME GAMES

A GOOD INTERNET CONNECTION(3G or Broadband) IS A MUST..

Please don't even think you can do this with a 2G connection or using your cellphone as a modem(I've tried).

Although other reviewers have also helped to explain the frustrating installation process let me do my part as well.

Here are the installation steps(from my experience with it):

1)Connect to the internet and keep it ready
2)Insert Disc1 > Click install
3)Install Steam
4)Log in to Steam(This requires internet)
5)Exit Steam
5)Ej...

Sweet deal

Okay, many people are cribbing about the Steam issues. I do agree with them and i too was a bit anxious about the installation. However, it turned out pretty fine and it didnt install the whole thing from the net. Either the Valve people have updated Steam to install from disc by default or i was plain lucky. :P I'll tell you what i did.

First of all, STEAM WILL NOT WORK IF YOUR NET CONNECTION IS THROUGH A PROXY SERVER. YOU NEED A DIRECT CONNECTION. So those who try to work it through office...

Good value for money

They don't lie when they say one of the best deals in video game history.
Pros:
-Great, classic games.
-The variety is nice, as when you get bored of one you can switch to another.
-Half Life 2 revolutionized the gaming industry as one of the best games of all time.
-Valve is one of the few gaming companies I truly like.
-Gabe Newell is a badass.

Cons:
-Steam is buggy, and you have to trick steam into letting you install the games from the disc and not download them from the internet.
-Even ...

A cannon for the price of a firework!!!

Alright I bought this from a store and I'm genuinely regretting it now . . . missing discounts like 30% does feel awful.
Half Life 2 is brilliant. Great story. If you appreciate intelligent gaming, you'll love it. Simply great.
Team Fortress: Haven't played it much yet but it does look cool.
And Finally PORTAL: If I've loved a game more than this, I cannot remember. My personal pick of the three. It really makes you use your head. Highly recommended.

"The best deal in videogame history."

I completely agree with IGN's comment. This is my first buy here, and the following greatly impress me...
1.Flipkart's Service - The game came on the exact date it was meant to, in a neat package with bubble wrap and airbags for perfect protection.
2.The games are evergreen and very fun to play.Installing them is easy as pie, though updating could be a pain on slow and fluctuating connections.
3.The free mousepad is also of good quality, though it's too big for my table LOL!
Excellent in all ser...
