Advance Copy Review for The Pink Smoke! A True Entertainer.

Going by the book jacket, there is a vibe that told me that the book was meant for smokers. But going through the pages, it becomes evident that a story has been presented earnestly. And I enjoyed reading this, for a change- for many reasons- the youthfulness demonstrated in the story, it's nostalgic angle and the descriptions of Bangalore city.

A couple of chapters are quite sensual, and some are very morbid too, such as the lead character's attempts to destroy himself. But there is a message that lights up through the story- and the language makes it easy to understand.

All in all, an entertaining read!!
Thumbs up. Go for this book.

Unputdownable, Intriguing & Fast Paced - Must Read.

"The Pink Smoke" happens to be one of my first attempts at reading Indian Fiction. And it has managed to change a long-nurtured perspective about stories told in books. I could use words like 'motivational', 'inspiring' and 'ambitious' but they wouldn't completely describe the story that has been told.

It is based on an individual's perspective through Engineering college- It does not talk about over-achievement, though. The book is based on the life of a confused engineering student, enrolled in a college that is not so well-known. At the same time, he is surrounded by the glamor of a metropolitan city. If this story talks about a battle, it is the one that develops between voices inside the protagonist's head. His choices make him suffer, they make him rejoice and they make him realize everything that he needs to know for an eventual semi-enlightenment.

The author, whom I know personally- seems to be polished and cultured with his language. He has managed to connect his story with the widest reading audience in India- A vibrant young demographic. And it looks like he is here to stay. I look forward to more of his work!

Thank you for the chance to review an advance copy! And to people who're wondering about getting the book- It's worth the time you'll spend reading it. Specially if you are looking for answers about your relationship and your career. Plus, you'll get to live through the author's story.

Really Intriguing & Addictive

My first ever non-academic book and my first ever book not read under compulsion had the good fortune to have been written by you. Hence, I may be a novice at sharing ideas and views on how well books are written. But what I could honestly share is that my first has got me hooked and I believe the credit goes to your excellent writing. And as I embark on my journey I hope to encounter more of your books. Thank you and congratulations!

A Brave Experiment, and it worked!

I'm not much of a reader for books written in the subcontinent- and I really haven't trusted an Indian Male Bridget Jones attempt till date. But looking at the controversy around this novel i decided to pick it up- and i do have a few observations.

1. It's an honest account, and very nostalgic in its outset. The author has provided a short-but-accurate description of the way I had looked at "namma bengaluru" in that time. Forum Mall, Jayanagar- Cheers to that...!

2. My first instinct was to look for faults in language- and I'm happy to note that I didn't find any- if anything, the way a first person account has been presented appears to be a pleasant change from what I've seen in most first attempts. Mr. Prakash's choice of vocabulary is excellent and it did inspire me to try out my hand at writing beyond my usual blogging adventures.

3. I like the cover way too much. It's like this question mark- except there isn't really a question in there. It's a probe that combines elements of very different objectives- pink and yellow may strike as an odd combination- but i think i understand why that choice has been put to practice here. A cigarette lighter that's burning a heart on a white flame- and when I finished reading the story, I completely understood what it stands for. (At least I think I did)

4. It's not too long- I managed to finish it in three days- which by my standards is a good pace. And that, for me- is a good thing because I hardly have the patience to sit through oodles of words at a stretch. The optimum length was a good decision to make the story presentable to its audiences - again, assuming that i do fall under the target readership for this book.

5. I think it is a bit early to say this because I really havent seen or read anything else by this mr. prakash, but if you're reading this- ( i really cant call you sir or anything because frankly speaking you're a bit younger than me!) you did a very good first attempt. I remember reading a book in 2004 by a man who had a strange surname back then, and the book was about college too. It was well received in following years. Your book is the next campus novel that i have come across after the *above mentioned* book. And I think this one is going to make it on those charts.

6. I finished reading this after midnight- a few minutes back, to be honest- which makes me vulnerable to a lot of emotions about the book right now. But yes- I definitely enjoyed reading it. So give me more of your books, and yes- the price is good too! Don't go overboard or overprice your books later.

Okay- done now. 5 Stars, and that's my thank you to you for coming up with this story.
By the way? Is it a true story? wait, don't tell me.

This is today’s story, our story!

Well, I came across this book when I’d been to a book store in search of some other book. The title caught my attention and I immediately decided to buy it.
The book talks about a life which many of us live. We all know of that boy who is forced to take up Engineering as his career since his family didn't want him to get into Arts. This is a similar story where the central character Siddhant decides to go for Engineering only because that was the only way he could be at Bangalore!

A story that takes place in a city like Bangalore will never fall short of opportunities and incidents. Similarly, our hero too found Bangalore as alluring as the others who had stepped in to the city before him. He gets addicted to two things in life – Nicotine and Nikita. Don’t they sound similar? In a way they both were giving him happiness that was short-lived and addictive too!

What’s the fun if you get to know of all the story here? A colleague who saw this book at my desk, asked me “The Pink Smoke. How can smoke be pink in colour?”. Many among you would have a similar doubt. The book will tell you how pink smoke could be at times!

Thoughts about the book are pouring in, but I don’t want to let them out at a go! It’s the story of today’s youth and the story of achievers. Go for it and get inspired!
