How does one become a man?Three young friends are about to find out. With six unmarried sisters and a perennially drunk father, Pinku, a 19-year-old school dropout, has only one dream left: to marry the plump girl who'd caught him stealing flowerpots. His friend and confidant, 17-year-old Bhandu, is not faring any better his parents are divorcing, his father has abandoned him and the American tourist he is infatuated with doesn't even know he exists. Bhandu and Pinku seek solace in the distracting shenanigans of their friend Guggi a pampered rich brat who can do anything for a thrill. Guggi's reckless hedonism lands the threesome in a series of 'sexpot' escapades each adventure weirder than the one before. But their seemingly innocuous joyride is about to end. With their Class 12 exams around the corner, Guggi, restless to leave a mark, takes over the school's notorious protection racket in a violent coup. The fallout drags the trio into a murky world of heartbreak, betrayal and bloody vengeance.

how not to fall into chetan bhagat stereotype

Went through a compelling experience of reading "the virgins"....compelling, because, i had plans to read it later...but a casual browse through the first few pages after delivery compelled me to devour it up whole...shelving my other scorch-close commitments...

And I am caught off-guard....just when it appeared to be another chetan-bhagat style mood-refreshing but otherwise pulp-fiction, it turned out to be deeper, darker...un-self-consciously maturer....forging through subterranean chann...

    Breezy engrossing read

The book is a real page turner, you relate to multiple characters at different levels and are always interested in how their destinies pan out right till the very end. The book flows effortlessly and the humor doesn't appear forced. An encouraging debut from a sparkling talent.

    A Walk Down Memory Lane

The light, breezy (and selectively cynical) tone of the author does not prepare you for the depth of emotion and nostalgia one feels after warming up to the characters and the events that unfold in the story.

Though this story is based in Benaras, one can easily relate to the characters and their quirks…. The power games in school and in teenage society, the “signature words” used by teenage boys (and girls), the deep exhilaration of adolescent “love” and of course, the obsession with “beco...

Outstanding purchase - worth every penny

There is no such thing as a first time writer. There are only good and average writers. Siddharth Tripathi makes a confident debut in the former category.
'The Virgins' grabbed my attention from the first line, and didn't let go till the very end. While there are many books about growing up, this one actually captures that one moment, that one decision, one realization which catapults you from the innocence within to the reality outside.
The characters are well sketched out, and early on in...

    One City …Three Friends…Many Characters…Innumerable Fun Moments..

The Virgins, authored by Siddharth Tripathi, has a compelling story line up which has been put across beautifully. The underbelly of Varanasi is shown in a way that you end up wanting more of Varanasi as well as the story. The cast, and the crazy characters, which manages to get itself into weirdest of situations adds spice from the beginning till the end.

The story essentially revolves around the teenage aspirations and the way they poise themselves to attain them. The enthusiasm in the ch...

Virgins - Raw Indian story telling unplugged

I bought this book because of a recommendation from a friend and was frankly a little put off by the title expecting a book about adolescence struck teenagers from another MBA turned author. Began reading it and found the book most unputdownable.

Siddharth doesn't seem like a first time writer and is definitely not a hinglish writer clone. He has his own style which is totally different. For starters there is a certain irreverence to the standard style of writing 'Hinglish' novels. The chap...
