A riveting story about romance, adolescent mistakes and second chances, The Witness is an engaging page-turner.

Summary Of The Book

The Witness, the author's 200th novel, narrates the life of Elizabeth Fitch, a model daughter who had to live up to the impossibly high standards of her critical and dictatorial mother. One night, rebellion takes over and she decides to be defiant for a change and sneaks into a nightclub with her friend. Underage drinking and promiscuity on her part capture the interest of a Russian gentlemen, who seduces her. However, the night ends with her witnessing a mob hit that is capable of bringing the entire Volkov organized crime family to its knees.

Twelve years later, Elizabeth is living in a small town in the Ozarks under the alias Abigail Lowery. She freelances as a security systems programmer, and she uses her expertise in technology to hack into the Volkov family syndicate and plots her revenge. Armed with a ferocious dog and her personal collection of firearms, she lives each day trying to evade the ghosts from her past.

In the meantime, her reticent and enigmatic character attracts the attention of police chief Brooks Gleason. The more he tries to get to know her, the more secretive she appears to be. He wears down her walls and learns of her past. Together, they decide to bring the Volkov family to justice, the same family that robbed Elizabeth of her prime years because of one ruthless act.
