Description

Theory Of Machines And Mechanisms By John J. Uicker, Gordon R. Pennock, Joseph E. Shigley

Theory of Machines and Mechanisms published in 2009 by Oxford University Press, is the third edition of the textbook meant for both undergraduate and graduate students of mechanical engineering. For the benefit of the students, the book has been divided into three parts. Part one is about kinematics and mechanisms, part two is about the design of mechanisms, and part three is about the dynamics of machines. Part one contains information about basic topics such as velocity, acceleration, position and displacement, and the world of mechanism. Part two explains topics like gears, synthesis of linkages, cam design, robotics, mechanism trains, and so on. Part 3 includes essential topics on the dynamics of machines such as vibration analysis, balancing, cam dynamics, gyroscopes, dynamics of reciprocating engines, flywheels, planar and spatial dynamic force analysis, and static force analysis. The exercises and the solved problems allow the students to practise their knowledge better.

John J. Uicker teaches mechanical engineering in University of Wisconsin, Madison. Gordon R. Pennock teaches mechanical engineering at Purdue University, Indiana. Joseph E. Shigley was a faculty of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan. Mr. Joseph authored several books on mechanical engineering including Mechanical Engineering Design, Bearings and Lubrication: A Mechanical Designer's Workbook, Fastening, Joining and Connecting: A Mechanical Designer's Workbook.

A Must Have for all Mechanical Engineering Students

The Book was well packed and delivered on time. This book is a pretty good book for a course in mechanics of machinery and dynamics of machinery. Some parts for kinematics of machinery is also there, Unlike other books it concentrates on concepts rather than teaching some methods for solving problems which are only useful in the short run.

One and only one !!!

You cant get any other better book than this. Best for fundamentals. If you are looking for marks in the universities this is not for you. But this is the best option for 'Engineering Students'.

Reference book in addition to R.S Khurmi's

Short theory but well explained. Authors have described every topic vectorially. Kinematic coefficient process is also added in every chapter that is an excess when Indian universities are concerned. Examples are less as every foreign author does in their tradition. This hunger can be fed with Khurmi's or Rattan.

its a good for self learing the mechanisms but before you go through this you berter be good with vector caluclations

good product and helps for attain g knowledge . when i first went through this text it opens my mind that what are the basic things that are required for the building of mechanism. i hope it provide good foundations for the individual who are in a pursuit for knowledge for building mechanisms

Essential for all mechanical engineers

You can't understand the basics of TOM clearly if you don't know how it was developed. This book clears your basic concepts clearly, even if you are a beginner. What this book lacks is it can't visualise you everything just by reading, so you can use You Tube for that. Definitely you can start your TOM with this book and then use some other writers for more knowledge.
