Book: Why They Just Can't Get Over It: A Spiritual And Psychological Approach To Overcoming Racism In America
Slavery may have ended in 1865, but the pains, prejudices, and traditions of four hundred years of slavery have continued through the generations and are ingrained in our modern psyches. Present-day America is still a breeding ground for hate crimes and racism because passed-down hatred is just as potent as firsthand hatred.

We are not at fault-we were never slaves or masters, ourselves-but this is our problem all the same. And we must make it our mission to break the cycle of abuse, cope with our legacy of hatred and mistrust, and heal ourselves with the kind of understanding and dialogue that "Why They Just Can't Get Over It" delivers.

Skelton's groundbreaking, hard-hitting book addresses the reasons that our nation has become so divided and dysfunctional and covers why we have a disproportionate level of social problems in the black community, including out-of-wedlock births, divorce, violence, drugs, and the number of black men in prison.

But most importantly, the sensible and spiritual principles and practices set forth in this illuminating and motivating guide empower Americans to move beyond the dark and wretched era of slavery and commit their hearts, minds, and lives to overcoming racism forever.

Review by GARY WILLIAMS
Nothing can be done until the culture becomes aware of the nature of modern Amrican conservatism. We keep tolerating their ideas on how to fix social problems as though they had put thought into it. They haven't. Ideas of any complexity are adopted wholesale from others, usually people whose intent is to manipulate them for political/financial gain.

Their almost exclusive use of external ideas is largely the result of generations of poorly socialised individuals who go on to revere the beliefs and superstitions their parents passed on to them; beliefs that reveal the under-developed empathic and cognitive skills of their originator. Such skills are essential in forming abstract mental constructions that allow us to think beyond the simplistic, black & white perceptions that our highly authoritarian children used, and who we as adults had to move away. This usually takes place around adolesence, and failure to do so can result in being stuck there all their lives.

They have nothing to offer in the way of progress, only various methods of avoiding the uncertainty that comes with trying something new. Maintaining the status quo or returning to some romantic vision of a past that never existed, and doing so over the trambled bodies of millions they refuse to help is all we can expect from modern conservatism/authoritarianism.
