  • Description

Okonkwo is the greatest wrestler and warrior alive, and his fame spreads throughout West Africa like a bush-fire in the harmattan. But when he accidentally kills a clansman, things begin to fall apart. Then Okonkwo returns from exile to find missionaries and colonial governors have arrived in the village. With his world thrown radically off-balance he can only hurtle towards tragedy. A classic in every sense, Chinua Achebe's stark, coolly ironic novel reshaped both Africa and world literature.

    Good world literature.

Usually we get to read world literature which is translated to English. In the process of translation the true essence of what the writer wants to say may be lost. The beauty of this book is that Chinua Achebe has written it in English and he paints a very beautiful picture of how life in a small village of Nigeria is in his own words.
I had not come across many books written by African writers about Africa. Was happy that I found this book. Its a very good book written in a very simple mann...

I consider this book in league of great novels written by the likes of Kawabata. Huan rulfo,Vaikom muhammed basheer,Hemingway etc.

    A Brilliant Read !

'Things Fall Apart' marks my venture into African Literature if I do not count 'Cutting for Stone' by Abraham Varghese on the basis that the latter mostly had Indian characters.

Chinua Achebe's writing style in 'Things Fall Apart' is seemingly simple but the characters provide much intrigue and the plot is highly engrossing. The protagonist Okonkwo is stands for everything I can dislike in a person - He is a misogynist, male chauvinist, who constantly strives to establish his mettle in the t...

    A story superbly narrated

I was looking for some other book at a book shop, but didn't find it. I had never read any African literature before. When I saw this book I had no idea about Chinua Achebe, but just thought of giving it a try. After reading the first few pages I knew that I have stumbled and a good piece of literature.

Achebe's style of writing is exemplary. He manages to convey a lot with fewer words.

The story is about the erosion of the Aftrican (Igbo) culture because of the colonialism by the British...

    Beautiful Work by Mr.Achebe.

This is one amazing book! Everyone who loves quality drama, would love this book. It literally created a tribal ambiance. Every time I read this book, I was carried away to a distant land. I felt as if I was in some African tribal village.
