Book Summary of Think Twice.

Leaders in all fields - business, medicine, law, government - make crucial decisions every day. The harsh truth is that they mismanage many of those choices, even though they have the right intentions. Why is it so hard to make sound decisions? Sharing stories from business and beyond, the author offers powerful rules for avoiding each error.

Mr. Mauboussin's latest installment dives deeper into some of the ideas that he introduced in More Than You Know and focuses on the subset of cognitive heuristics that lead us into poor decision making.

Fantastic book, but little that Mauboussin writes disappoints me. Delves into several facets of decision making and breaks them down, focusing on the common errors that most people make. Then proivdes a summary chapter with steps to improve your own decision making. I have found the recommendation of keeping a decision journal particularly useful.

Particularly valuable was his exposition of Nicholas Taleb's 'Black Swan' principle. He agrees with it, and discusses some of the reasons Black Swans occur.

Fast read as well.

Schitterend boek over de vele psychologische valkuilen waar we met onze ogen dicht in trappen ;)

A *great* introduction for the novice to a number of the natural human biases, heuristics, etc to which we are all subject and which affect our day-to-day decision-making and opinion formation.

It gives a reasonably coherent and strong, though not faultless, introduction to the a number of the relevant concepts in what could probably be called "decision theory" and from this work, one can leap to the many referenced materials to extend and deepen one's knowledge where appropriate (e.g. Kahneman & Tversky, Cialdini, Thaler, Ariely, some Zimbardo and even a possibly dating Milgram, et al).
