    Flipkart Official Review

“Those Pricey Thakur Girls” is not chick-lit, well not at least according to me. It is fiction, popular fiction if anything else. It is also Jane Austen in Delhi, or rather hints and traces of Pride and Prejudice in Delhi in the 80’s and just by that you should know that it is a romp of a read. At the same time, Anuja Chauhan touches on the political and social issues of those times, however does not let the novel dwell on it too much.

The setting: Hailey Road in Delhi. The family: But obviously the Thakur clan. The characters: Justice Laxmi Narayan Thakur, his wife Mamta Thakur, and their five daughters, who are named alphabetically from A to E. Each daughter has her own eccentricities. Each daughter comes with her own opinions and way of living. Amidst all this is the fourth daughter Debjani, who essentially the story is about, of how she becomes a news reader on DeshDarshan (a tongue-in-cheek but obviously on the national channel) and the appearance of Dylan Singh Shekhawat (her father’s closest friend’s son) and but obviously the tone of the book is set – of misunderstanding, of romance and of whether or not they will get together.

The Indian families in the book automatically provide for so much fodder for humour and sarcasm. The characters are well-etched– interlinked families in a growing metropolis. The book is a fantastic read.

Those Pricey Thakur Girls is a popular fiction set in the posh Hailey Road In Delhi. The book is about the Thakur family and how each member of the family is unique in their own quirky way. It is a fun read with tongue-in-cheek humor.

    Summary

The story of the book revolves around Retd. Justice Laxmi Narayan Thakur and his five daughters, all named in alphabetical order from A to E. Each daughter has their own opinions and way of life and come with their own set of eccentricities. Debjani, the fourth daughter and the protagonist of the novel gets a job as a news reader with DeshDarshan, the national channel. With the appearance of Dylan Singh Shekhawat, a christian-rajput and the son of her father’s closest friend, things take a whole new turn, with romance brewing in the backdrop. The other sisters, Anjini, Binodini, Chandrakanta and Eshwari make the book witty and spot-on funny.

    D-for-Dhamaka! A fun read indeed!

The 5 daughters of BJ (Bau Ji) are the 5 different hues of the spectrum. Well, technically 4 because the 3rd offspring((Chandu with her Estonian spouse and son Hendrick Narayan Lippick) never surfaces. You can hear the Judge yelling "no one should take her name in the house" and ultimately discover the "secret" nexus between old Mr Gambhir and LN which clearly marks out the fact that a father can't be weaned away from a child for long.

The show stealers are themembers of the thakur clan--Anj...

    Fun and frolic!

The cover of Those Pricey Thakur Girls by Anuja Chauhan proclaims her to be the only author of popular Indian fiction worth reading. Now, I usually steer clear of populist Indian fiction for the simple reason that they are usually so bad that I can actually feel my intellect going down while reading these books. But this was a highly recommended read from two of my friends so I thought to take a plunge with this one and I was definitely not disappointed.

This book follows an extremely quirky...

    A good buy!

An indian version of Pride and Prejudice worth reading to recollect the small artifacts about the famous novel by Jane Austen. Desi drama added this book is a light read and is fresh out. Entertaining and hearty, I'd recommend this book for all.
It will give you a peek into the posh lifestyle of the Thakurs housed at Hailey Road and the beautiful romance knit between the chin on the mole Debjani Thakur and the handsome and sober Dylan Singh Shekhawat. The two characters highly resemble Elizab...

    Very Crisp and romantic!

The book is a wonderful read esp for all the 70s and 80s borns! They can connect to it the most. Though I'll suggest it to everybody. Age is no bar! This book is romantic, has fair share of comedy and has a storyline a bit similar to Pride and Prejudice though clear differential lines are drawn soon enough. It has amazing chutzpah and catches on with you very fast. So go ahead and enjoy your time with it :-)

    Laughter and Gulgul Bhaisaab!

“Bhai, yeh Meenakshi Seshadri cheating karti hai. Haan, toh this Meenakshi, she looks like she is wearing an Amar Chitra Katha outfit-you know, only a white cloth floating on her upper body- but agar close-by se dekho toh she is wearing a full-sleeved, neck-to-waist skin-colored blouse! And I’m rewinding and rewinding and looking and looking and wondering ki, bhai where is her toondi? Batao!”

Laughter heals! In this crazy, hurried, distanced world, it definitely does. I’m so glad that I de...
