Three Men In A Boat (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.75

Three Men In A Boat is a comic memoir of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford by Jerome K. Jerome.

Summary of the Book

Three men decide that they have been overworked for quite some time and decide to take a uneventful boating holiday. George, Harris, Jerome and Montmorency, a fox terrier, set forth on a boating trip up the River Thames, from Kingston upon Thames to Oxford, during which they plan to camp, despite Jerome's admission about previous experiences with tents and camping stoves. The comic story of what ensues forms the rest of the novel which involves the three friends and their fortunes and misfortunes. The events show the ridiculous unreliability of barometers for weather forecasting to the difficulties encountered when learning to play the Scottish bagpipe, and soon the three friends discover that their trip might not be that uneventful after all.

About Jerome K. Jerome

Jerome K. Jerome was an English writer, best remembered for Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow, Second Thoughts of an Idle Fellow, and Three Men on the Bummel.

Three Men On A Boat was adapted into several major motion pictures, including a made-for-television version by the BBC in 1975, starring Tim Curry and Stephen Moore.

Not exactly a story

I bought this book after reading good reviews on Flipkart and as I love reading humor, I thought I must read it.

Its a good read. However, this is not exactly a story but rather it has funny incidents from old memories. So, the narration goes back and forth from current incident to old memory. Nevertheless, there are some boring moments. But the funny ones just light you up and I beleive that you laugh out loud, then the author is successful in conveying exactly what we wanted to. So, this book did have those funny moments. But, somehow as there is no story, there isnt exactly looking forw...

So, if you not the type of person who are looking for a page turner, then go ahead and buy it. It has some light moments but its more like a text book read.

Do read it..

A good old witty , hilarious ,easy read book....
just don't read in a place where you have people around, you might be looked as a lunatic laughing out loud.
The way in which the book is written is as naive as a children story book and it doesn't preaches any philosophy of any kind. It is just a plain read of three men and a dog's itinerary on Thames in a boat .The level of details and wittiness of day to day situation astonishes me and i think everyone should give it a try.

Non-stop humour

A non-stop humor novel originally intended to be a travelogue in near london river side areas. Throughout the novel, the author cracks the readers with small flashbacks of the fictional characters to enrich us with information of what to do and what not to do during such travels. My fav is the cheese story, the paraffin story flashbacks.
You would never laugh out as much as when reading it equaling to piles of humor novels you might have read.

The book is medium sized against my expectation of being small and very readable fonts.
very cheap and more than enough good quality book. would be...

Three Men In A Boat: Summary

Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog),[Note 1] published in 1889, is a humorous account by English writer Jerome K. Jerome of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford.

The book was initially intended to be a serious travel guide, with accounts of local history along the route, but the humorous elements took over to the point where the serious and somewhat sentimental passages seem a distraction to the comic novel. One of the most praised things about Three Men in a Boat is how undated it appears to modern readers ??? the jokes seem fresh and witty even today.

Excellent book...

This is one of the most humorous books I have ever read. It was written along time ago, so the writing style may seem a bit odd. But if you can get past the first few pages, it is an excellent read and the jokes are as funny as ever.
The delivery from Flipkart was good as usual. This book is definitely recommended. Certainly after a long and hard day a few pages of this book can make you feel lighthearted again.
