Thundergod: The Ascendance of India is the story of Indra, the god of thunder and his legendary transformation from a king to God.

    Summary of the Book

Indra was born of a prophetic union between Gaia, the Earth Goddess and Daeyus, chief of the Devas. He found himself growing in an atmosphere of treachery and incumbency. Under the watchful eye of sage Mitra, Indra sets out on a journey to win the hearts of his fellow tribesman, and the kingdoms of the world. With Agni, Vayu, Varuna, Soma Indra, and his brother as his allies he sets on a journey stretching from Asia minor to Harappa encountering enemies, demons and goddesses, and in the process loses the only woman he ever loved.

    Good read

This was a good read, after a good wait in the india fiction section where almost everyone headed on the lines of the Da Vinci Code and made a past present continuum to brew up storms in their stories that would end in no grand ceremony but would rather fizzle out to a disappointing climax.

This book on the other hand is more on the lines Melhu and such keeping true to its story and the mission its on to achieve rather than losing itself in the 300 odd pages the book keeps to itself and hold...

Nice story with sureshot page turner

I have great interest in alternate history/mythology stories. After reading Shiva Triology, I wanted to read some more stories in such line, at that time I saw this book on flipkart and I ordered it.
    Some good points
    1) Good storyline
    2) Nice conceptualization
    Some bad points
    1) Storyline was very fast
    2) In just one part, more than 6-7 big plots took place

    In one word... Brilliant!

One must thank amish tripathi for starting a new genre...mythfiction or whatever u may like to call it.. :)

A person who has basic knowledge of mythology and history can enjoy the story and be excited in reading the names of the mentioned sages/kings/nymphs etc.. And if u have no idea, then lay back and enjoy the read -- either ways ::)

This book is simply brilliant..perfect weekend read... The plot moves on logically and the writing is very easy to comprehend..

If this is indeed a tril...

    The Ascendance of Indra!

As the title suggests, this book is about Indra's rise to power from a mortal to god. Rajiv has pretty much retained Indra's nature that is very well known of in Indian Mythology. Egoistic, powerful and arrogant. The book is very well researched and written. Language is simple and Rajiv has written addressed a lot of myths through his perspective.

A lot has been said about the wars and about sex in the book. Considering the time frame the book has been set in, they are aptly written. But yes...

    A Thunderous Applause to Rajiv

There seems to a lot of books coming out in the Indian Mythological Genre. Many books these days are very predictable, language used is made very simple and sometimes even the plot is structured quite poorly. Rajiv Menon here has carved out a distinct place for him here and has the unique ability to conceal the plot until the very end.

When I started reading the book, I was surprised to see that his style of writing was different. I literally felt like reading about the life of some Greek ...

Daring attempt, Average plot and language, but...... a huge put off

Indra is one of the most misunderstood gods in our Epics and history. It was definitely a courageous attempt for a debutante author to try a trilogy on Indra. But a few things put me off in this book:
    1) According to our scriptures, Indra is a position and not one person. The current Indra position supposedly is held by Purandhara. This book does indicate the position as 'King of Devas' but limits the scope of Indra.
    2) Sachi was the daughter of Puloma who was an Asura, not a Deva. Their mar...

    A GRIPPING TALE!

Fascinating read, delivered at an unrelenting pace. The fusion of Greek mythology within the storyline is great! But some of the action pieces are indeed straight out of a couple of movies.

At the end of the book, what stayed with me was the fact that this one is way better than the Shiva trilogy, in terms of the structure and the detailing of the characters. Though it is really hard to recommend one over the other.

Looking forward to the continuation of the series soon!

    Thunder god assendence of indra

Novel is good but writer includes lots of things from greek mythology like indra son of gaia,There are so many things in indian mytholgy and indian history which can be the part of this novel instead of unclear history and greek mythology.
In one sense it is good but insult of indian mythology.
