About the Author
Herg????(Georges Remi) was born in Brussels on 22nd May 1907. His artistic pseudonym comes from his initials spelled backwards (R.G., as pronounced in French). Over the course of 54 years, he would complete 23 albums. Sadly, he died on 3rd March 1983, leaving his 24th album, Tintin and Alph-Art, unfinished.

Tintin: King Ottokar’s Sceptre
Another enjoyable adventure which sees Tintin and Snowy enmeshed in the political machinations of a small Balkan country, Syldavia, which is riven by internal strife and coveted by a militaristic neighbouring country. The politics of Europe of 1939, the time of first publication of this book, appears to have influenced Hergé to the extent of partly basing this story on the Nazi annexation of Austria. However, Herge got the balance right here between real-world politics and the 'lighter' espionage and chase elements of the adventure. This adventure is also important as it develops a number of characters that are going to reappear in later ones, the most important being the country of Syldavia, as well as introducing the Milanese Nightingale, Bianca Castafiore.
