Description

Summary of the Book

Tintin, a Belgian reporter, travels to the USSR to cover a story. Mistaken for a saboteur as his train is blown apart, he is arrested and taken to a torture chamber. Escaping using his sharp wit, Tintin quickly unravels that the Soviet Union is merely a sham, the progress that the communists show foreign visitors is an illusion and the real scene is one of oppression and cruelty. However to take the story home, Tintin must escape the land of the Soviets. Something even he will be hard pressed to do as the authorities have issued a manhunt for him.

About Hergé

Georges Prosper Remi, otherwise known by his pseudonym Hergé, was a Belgian cartoonist. He is best known as the creator of Tintin, penning 23 books in the series. He was also behind Quick & Flupke and Jo, Zette and Jocko.

Great to collect. 1st in the series.

This book being the first comic strip in the Tintin series was a great collection item. If you are a Tintin fan and/or want your kids to also grow-up reading the adventures that Tintin and Snowy encounter.... This is a must buy... it starts Tintin's journey of adventures.

Please note: These stories were written way way back. During those times World Politics and power balance were quite different hence do not take offence on certain story theme.

Vintage Tintin. Must have for a collector like me

Great delivery time. No question regarding the book itself. However, there were a number of minor irritations like folded corners, slightly damaged spine etc., that were of no account to most. But it was slightly irksome to a person like me, who is a collector of sorts, in a small way, and one who do not open up a book beyond 60 degrees to protect the spine, and would love to have his books in pristine condition.

This book is highly recommend for children above 12 because it is important to understand the how did the Russian communists carried out there propaganda. This book is first book in the series The adventures of Tintin.

A good tintin title for collection

The comic is good as Tintin titles usually are, however this being one of the initial Tintin comics, the illustrations are not the superfine ones which Herge fans are used to. Also the illustrations are in black and white. But the comic is a nice read.

This is black and white. One sided depiction of the Soviet Union. This and the Congo book are the pure propoganda books in the series. Not very suitable for children, unless you want to explain communism capitalism and all the other isms.
