The Tone Masters

1889. The present series has been prepared to supply a vacant place in juvenile literature, namely, the musical. For, while there is no lack of books, and every other department overflows with them, our young friends are but meagerly informed about music, and those great masters whose works are, and must ever be, fountains of inspiration and enjoyment to all who become familiar with them. The stories of other Tone Masters will be issued from time to time until the series is complete. They will contain the leading facts in the lives of the great composers, a description of their best works, the circumstances under which they were written, and analyses of their construction and peculiar excellencies. Contents: Mozart and Mendelssohn; Handel and Haydn; and Bach and Beethoven.
