Book: Topics In Modern Optics About the Book:
This book presents a wide-ranging discussion of the various facets of optics. The basic principles have been systematically discussed and extensively explained. Several applications of optics have also been discussed to provide a practical flavour of the subject.
The book presents a broad insight into the subject and would be extremely useful for students as well as researchers.
About the Author:
Arawind S. Parasnis after obtaining his Doctorate from the University of Bristol in 1960 joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur as Assistant Professor of Physics. He became Professor in 1965. He has over 70 publications in the fields of optics, microscopy, crystal physics, defects in crystals, instrumentation and equipment design. He was British Council Visitor in the University of Essex, Colchester in 1978 and 1985, Research Affiliate in the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste in 1978, Visiting Professor of Optics in the Institute of Armament Technology, Pune in 1989-90. In IIT Kanpur, he designed and built crystal growers, high temperature (1920?C) furnaces, argon ion precision thinning chamber for electron microscopy specimens, and equipment for lecture demonstrations and student experiments. Currently in Pune, he is a consultant in laser applications, ceramic materials and communication skills.
K.R. Sarma obtained his Ph.D. degree from Cornell University and then joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering in 1961. In 1970 he was appointed Professor. The areas of his interest are communications, instrumentation, optical signal processing and image processing. From 1991-97 he was Director, Central Scientific Instrumentation Organisation, Chandiragh.
Raj K.Thareja obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Delhi, Delhi and then went to UK on a Leverhulme Commonwealth Visiting Fellowship. He worked in Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory at Harwell in the field of lasers and laser-plasma interaction. In 1980 he joined IIT Kanpur as Lecturer and continues there as Professor. His research interests include optical physics, nonlinear optics, short wavelength lasers, laser radiation-matter interaction, and laser fabrication and instrumentation.
