Toshiba Satellite C640-X4012 Laptop (2nd Gen Ci5/ 4GB/ 500GB/ No OS)

delivered in time , in this area flipkart is quite good.

Now Laptop review,

I bought this laptop as it has i5 - 2nd generation processor, and its quite cheap as compare to others.

cons :
outer built quality is low.
No HDMI - I know it before I purchased . because i dont watch movies and i have HDMI DVD player .
Touch Pad makes noise when u click the button.

Pros :
Good screen , light weight ,good webcam ,

I installed Ubuntu 11.04 , Its working well and quite fast. all the hardwares are supported , expect bluetooth which i think will work after i apply some patches.

As it has 3GB ram ( 1GB 2 GB ) , I am planning to replace 1GB with 4GB , so my config will be quite good.

I bought this laptop from flipkart being a little worried about the quality because the price is 29K , well below the competitors price range.

But I got to say Flipkart surprised my very positively.

an I5 2nd Gen Processor with 3GB/500 GB config( Quite good, but not for profound games cos of no Graphics Card available).

Pros :

> Good Screen
> Light Weight
> Excellent speed ( Windows Experience Index 6.5 for processor)
(Windows 7 rating of 5.2 experience Index out of 8 for the total system).
>Too good a battery life
( Said 95% remaining with 5h:15Min remaining, watched movie for 2 hours still more than 40% was remaining)
> Low heat generation.

Cons:

> Oil attracting surface, leaves finger prints very easily.
> Webcam clarity not that good, pretty usable though
( Saturation levels , i.e. lacks the color sense).
> No HDMI Port and only 2 USB ports Available.
I can live with all these very easily :)

Hello Flipkart users please read this before you purchase Toshiba C640 seies.

This series has been discontinued in United States and Many western countries. But they still have it here. I think they are dumbing the already manufactured goods here in India.
Now, My experience..
Toshiba says this is an affordable series.

I have purchased one(Not through Flipkart). Let me tell you, the built quality is poor. It doesn't look symmetrical when you close the screen. There are gaps both horizontal and vertical. In my case when you close the screen its in position in one place(left) and on the right side its bit misaligned, and there is a small gap on the right side when you close it.
When I contacted the Local Authorised Service station the guy told me that atleast 50% of these C640 series have these kind of problems.

I couldn't find any other complaints. But they should have manufactured it with same stuff with better built quality. Atleast it should look symmetrical. Go to Toshiba USA you will find they have stopped selling the C640 series there. Making a product affordable is not making it with a poor built quality.

thanks for flipkart for its service, i received within 2 day after placing the order

it's already one month i'v been using this laptop, until now satisfy with the machine performance(it's all about performance not look and feel)

processor: Ci5 tells every thing, turbo2 boost technology has been used, it took 12 min to install the windows 7 Os,
inbuilt GPU support has been given, we can create the 3D objects in Photoshop without any extra graphic card support,

Battery: when it consider battery it low wattage(45w dell is 65 W), after 1.5 to 2 years, every laptops battery is going to be lost it's capacity to store charges, so you can give away this future.
in power saving mode it's giving 3:30hr to 4hr without any video watching that really good.

keyboard & Touch pad: if we consider whole outer built quality, keyboard is the only feature is good one, it design is good. you will feel comfort while using the keyboard.

Touch pad is sensitive so right click and left click makes sound so batter use the external mouse.

speakers: horrible to ear the sounds from the speakers, better use good earphone.

it's a good machine for 29k if you don't consider the outer build quality

I bought this product in mid of December and flipkart delivered it in perfect way within time specified as I just expected.

Laptop is good; actually quite awesome machine @ this price value. It has i5 intel processor which is good. Finding drivers ( even on the toshiba web site ) was bit of problem as i am using Windows Server 2008 R2 on it.

Speed - Good
Battery - Awesome ( more than 3.5 hrs )
I just saw 3 consecutive movies and it was still 20 mins remaining.
Structure Body - Looks good, but plastic is not so. It has bit of low quality body.
Touch pad - makes noise, but i don't have anything to do with touch pad as i have external mouse.
Screen - good

Speakers - I didn't like. It has low quality also make noisy which does not suits my ear not even with my sony noise reduction headphone. I can't find the reason behind this.

Web cam - quality is good, but unfortunately it shows me black and white view. It might be due to Server OS and drivers supportability.

Rest - Out of 5, I'd give this 3.5 star.
