Tourism In Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh state is a picturesque mountainous region and is inhabited by one of the most colourful people whose culture is as diverse at the mountin landscape. The state has immense tourism resources to develop various forms of mountain tourism. Tourism has expanded and has seen a progressive geographical spread and diversification of tourism destinations. As a result, the state has witnessed positive economic benefits of tourism. However, the problem of unsuistainable tourism is putting an increasing pressure on the natural, cultural and socio economic environment of the state. While tourism continues to grow into the fragile mountain enviornment of the state, it remains an undestudied and neglected subject. The present work is a step in this direction. The book explores the tourism resources, geographical distribution and regional importance of tourism. It also examiens the economic physical and socio cultural impact of tourism and suggests ways to promote sustainable tourism in the state.
About Author :
Dr. Manoj Jreat, born in an agriculturist family in Kotgarh in Shimla district, complete his masters degree in Geography from Punjab University and ph.D. from School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Since then he is actively engaged in teaching Geography at college level in Himachal Pradesh and is currently associated with a variety of research programmes related to tourism in the mountain environment.
