TP-LINK TL-MR3020 Portable 3G/3.75G/4G Wireless N Router

Well, As usual happy with flipkart. Item landed up in 2 days :).

My Purpose was to give Internet access to my factory PC's & CCTV Systems.

I am using an Huwaie EC 156 (Tata-(Docomo)-Photon+), which is generally a pain in non windows systems (Linux needs USB_Modeswitch). Hence was slighly worried about compatability.

Initially the modem kept saying identifying, so I did a manual configure (Open Modem -> Network -> 3g page) and configure your modem there. Once I Done that, modem worked perfectly fine. There No need to download additional firmware from the TP-Link site.

Additional Notes: This is powered by a USB Miniport, and comes with a Dual-Head-USB cable (Similar to Ext HDD) and a usb plug socket. So you can use it via power point or while plugged into your laptop allowing you to share internet with other devices while travelling. (There is NO Battery afaik)

Im very happy and had it setup with PortForward, Remote Management, in about 5-10Mins.

I would highly recommend it. So Tata/Docomo photon users with the black huwaie dongle go ahead. Just remember the manual configure page.

About the product - I use a Reliance netconnect ZTE AC 2737 modem. During installation I followed all the steps to the last detail only to find out that I am not receiving any internet connection on the TPlink device (All the indicator lights glow except for the one for internet connection). I checked the ip address they provided on the web browser. This is where the problem is seen. The modem is always in "identifying" mode and refreshes again and again. So clearly the device has not recognised my modem. I even updated the firmware to no avail.

Even after reading all the reviews on flipkart and absolutely convinced of the product, Mistakes happen. I dont know how to make the device work. I have contacted Tplink support. Waiting for their response. If anyone knows how to fix the issue please post it here.

Now about the product:I bought Tata Photon plus EC156 huwawei modem and i have my ASUS lappy and Samsung Galaxy Note.I live in Hostel and my friend in next room want to share my unlimited data connection.Then i thought of buying a 3g router and searched in Flipkart and found this one tiny little white router.In TP-LINK site my modem is not listed as a supported device.So i contacted TP-LINK customer care by email via the link provided in their site and they promptly answered that it supports.
I did not know much about networking and didn't know how to connect and configure.So i took the risk and ordered.And now after using it for 15 days ,I can tell u how easy it is to configure.It comes with a CD in the box never used it.there is a document containing simple yet effective direction with picture how to configure it,and i followed it in verbatim(not at all complicated)and voila! it worked.And for the first time I connected my lappy and my beloved NOTE over wi-fi.I also connected my old and dependable Nokia N79 and my friend next door connected his laptop effortlessly.I was surprised to see that I can go upstairs and in 2nd floor room i remained connected all along in Galaxy Note,browsing uninterruptedly.
With little search I found 2 software: Airdroid and VLC Dirct Pro in the android market and with this router ,now I can stream music or see HD video in my laptop screen from Note and transfer any file without the need of wired connection in lightning speed.Every friend of mine get astonished to see how can I control a video playing in laptop using my phone as a remote!!!
Download upload speed is very good.It came with white,sturdily built 2 headed USB connector which can connect the router with the supplied charger or to get charge from the laptop.There are 2 other mode apart from 3g mode:AP and WISP-don't know yet what are they.
Moral of the story,It is a very effective,best priced 3G router for anyone who has a 3g sim+data card or any data card like TATA Photon,Reliance Netconnect,Bsnl etc and have multiple device(phone,laptop)and want to use single connection for all device with high speed(don't want to waste money for 3G sim as well as Tata photon).

The first product i got was faulty as it wouldnt always connect to my Reliance ZTE 2726 dongle. Either the connection would drop after a few minutes, or the router would simply go into "identifying" mode for ever. TPLink support said it was faulty and Flipkart promptly exchanged it for a new piece (they were extremely helpful and prompt, and for that reason i will always go to flipkart first for any web purchase)
The second piece works beautifully with my Reliance dongle.
Please note - 2g dongles like reliance are extremely "iffy" with most 3G routers. But i need 2G (broadband) because i need to use this in a remote area out of Mumbai where there is no 3G available in any case. So there is no point in getting a 3G connection and then get bumped down to 1X speed and yet pay the 3G cost.
Bottom line - this router is awesome, speed is fantastic and Flipkart's service is simply excellent.(i'm giving it 4 stars only because the first piece did not work properly)

before proceeding with the product review.....a very personal view on flipkart service......even though it is extremely fast & absolutely beyond any complain.... the speed of delivery has declined a wee bit compared to the initial days.. but that can be attributed to the huge surge of customer base.Customer care is as always extremely helpful & beyond perfect...
Abt the product...
its even more portable compared to the pictures here & supports a hell of a lot more types of modems apart from the ones listed on the site.
future proof with windows8 compatibility out of the box.
set up was a cakewalk....
all in all it took me a li'l less than 4 minutes to unbox & set the thing up following the QIG.
have not yet opened the resource cd(did not have to)
the set up is up & ready & already connected 4 devices...
I use a reliance netconnect+ evdo connection....
speed is extremely satisfactory..... considering the fact that its being used on a ship away from the coast line.
Range is extremely well, penetrates across the heavy bulkheads of a ship.
i am extremely positive about the fact that on land with stronger signals this router will perform even better.....

To conclude....the product exceeded my expectations,not just by its functional usability but also with its ease of setup,operation & extremely handy form factor.
Hats off to flipkart & tplink.....5stars will still seem understated....I wish they were more...
