The Transforming Power Of God: Encountering Christ In The Life Of Elisha

The gospel according to Elisha is a full one. It shows the compassion, grace and mercy of God. It demonstrates the power and trustworthiness of the Lord Jesus Christ towards lost and helpless sinners. It illustrates the character of sin and then the content of Christs salvation as a remedy for that sin in all its many aspects. It embodies Christs use of the Word of God and also of weak human instruments. It looks forward to the coming of the great Prophet, Christ, and on to his coming again at the last day, when the resurrection of the dead will signal the end of all things with the renewal of the heavens and the earth. It points us to the one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus and calls us to repent and believe in him, if we have never done so before. Those who encountered the prophet during his ministry found their lives renewed, transformed and enriched. Elisha fed a hundred sons of the prophets from twenty loaves (2 Kings 4: 42). Christ fed five thousand men plus women and children from five loaves (Matthew 14: 21). Those who encounter the Saviour himself will enjoy the how much more of the New Covenant and enjoy the unsearchable riches of Christ (Ephesians 3: 8) now and for ever.
