The University Grants Commission (UGC) is responsible for appointing lecturers in Indian universities and colleges. The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted at the national level, and those who qualify are then eligible to teach anywhere across India, or join doctorate programmes. The Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is an award for eligible NET candidates. From December 2013, many PSUs have also started using NET scores to screen potential employees. Many states are also entitled to conduct their own state level entrance exams with UGC’s approval. Those who qualify by writing SLET (State Level Eligibility Test for Lectureship Eligibility), now called SET (State Eligibility Test for Lectureship), can join as teachers in institutions within that particular state.

UGC NET/JRF/SLET: Teaching And Research Aptitude (General Paper - I) has been designed as per the latest format and syllabus of these examinations.
