    About Milan Kundera

Milan Kundera, born on April 1, 1929, is the most recognized living writer of Czech Republic.

Some of his other books include The Book of Laughter And Forgetting, The Joke, Laughable Loves, Immortality, and Ignorance.

Since 1975, he has lived in exile in France and has become its naturalized citizen since 1981. Kundera has written books in both French and Czech. He studied aesthetics and literature at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague. He modifies the French translations of all his books, therefore these are considered as original works not translations. The Communist regimes of Czechoslovakia banned his books until the Velvet Revolution in 1989 when the regime was brought down.

    Great!

This novel represents the pinnacle of the career of a very talented and relevant writer. Kundera is a writer who can mix philosophy with satire, and humour with very accurate social observations.

In 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' Kundera tries to determine whether our actions on this earth have significance and therefore weight, or whether our actions have no ramifications and are therefore light and are dead in advance. The question he deems more important however, is which of these tw...

    Bearable lightness post-reading

What a real masterpiece to read!
I would like to mention that I picked up this book just by its name "the unbearable lightness of being", until now I was not among Milan Kundera's readers, but yes! now I am. He is a prolific writer and genius with expressions and words too. First of all it was like reading a normal fiction with characters carved out in the most immaculate way, I read it slowly because after every 10-12 pages it became overwhelming for me, it has helped me make important deci...

    Wonderful

This is one of the best books that I've ever read and I highly recommend it. It might get a bit difficult to read sometimes, but do stick with it and complete it. I promise it's a whole new experience.

    Fantastic.

Easily one of the best books I have read thus far. Kundera, for those who have not touched upon his work, has a knack of seamlessly weaving in all sorts of quirks that relate to events in your daily life into the fabric of his narration. If you hear about it as a story, or read the excerpt, you will only get an idea of the frame and not the painting. I hope this has stroked your fancy. Please do give it a read.

    Terrible product

Book is very badly bound and many pages came out on first reading itself.
Otherwise, it is a masterpiece from Milan Kundera.

    Worth the money

This was my first Milan Kundera Novel. It is really unique in its approach about love, understanding and human connections. It was a wonderful ride! The philosophical speculations in between are funny yet thought provoking.
The quality of the binding was not 'very' good. The print was good, but a page got separated from the book. Also, for those who get hooked up because of the story telling, this may disappoint you a bit, but the content surely won't!
It deserves all the praise. Give it a try!
