Understanding Tourism Economics

There is a contention held by a group of authors that Indian researchers are compelled to their empirical work with theories developed elsewhere and often irrelevant to the Indian milieu. Furthermore, the use of mathematics stems partly from excess of theoretical abstraction. Nevertheless, the theories which developed elsewhere, as methodological tools cannot and should not be ignored. The present book is intended to meet the need of graduate level students with training in intermediate economic theory. The overall approach remains an economic one. Mathematical requirements are kept to a minimum. Our objective is to make the vast literature accessible as much as possible and give it a well-structured treatment of the subject. It is also hoped that the book would be helpful in stimulating further research interest in the field of tourism.
About Author :
Kunal Chattopadhyay is presently associated with the Economic Research Unit of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Calcutta. He did his Ph.D. in tourism economics, authored a number of books and has contributed a good number of papers to academic journals in India and abroad. He was involved in various tourism related studies of the Ford Foundation, the World Bank, Government of Jammu and Kashmir. He served as guest lecturer in Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Calcutta and International Institute of Advanced Studies, Calcutta. He is also the member of the Board of Studies (Tourism) of Vidyasagar University.
