The IAS History Mains examination consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. There are 24 topics in Paper 1, which cover early ancient history leading up to the 18th century. In Paper 2, there are 27 topics which reflect upon the historical period starting from the European invasion of India up until the Soviet Union disintegration.
